Gresham Blake designs uniform collection for Hard Rock Hotel London

British fashion designer and founder of his eponymous Brighton-based brand Gresham Blake has teamed up with Hard Rock Hotel London to design a uniform collection for its employees.

The collection of 10 outfits plus accessories looks to pair legacy with contemporary style; quintessentially British with an anti-establishment edge. Most of the pieces include exclusive print designed by Gresham, merging images of classic British rock stars inspired by the Hard Rock’s musical heritage.

Blake worked on the collection with the help of award-winning singer-songwriter, Rag ‘n’ Bone Man, and Slaves guitarist and vocalist, Laurie Vincent, who helped to design a long-tailored coat which combines Rag ‘n’ Bone Man’s own tartan pattern with Vincent’s artwork featuring in the lining of the jacket.

Commenting on his new collection, Blake said: “The collection exhibits a lot of rock idols shown through the printed linings, t-shirts, pocket squares and scarves and we have designed British woven cloths specific for Hard Rock Hotel London.”

Ian Fletcher, general manager of the new Hard Rock Hotel London, added: “Music is in our blood and as this is the first time the Hard Rock brand has launched a hotel in the UK, it was important that British style and London’s musical heritage shone through on every detail of the hotel including our staff uniforms.”

Famous fans of Blake include Ray Winstone, Steve Coogan, Jimmy Page, Plan B and FatBoy Slim.

Samsøe Samsøe to launch conscious denim line

Danish fashion brand
has announced it will be stepping up its sustainability efforts with the
launch of a new conscious denim line and a commitment to significantly reduce
its use of plastic.

Launching in October, the Blue Belief programme is a collection of jeans
made from sustainable fabrics and using advanced technology that minimizes
water consumption during the washing process. The jeans will be made using
either organic or fully recycled cotton, naturally oxidized studs,
nickel-free zippers, recycled polyester yarns and jacron labels – a type of
washable recycled paper.

The finishing process has also been reimagined. It has now been
relocated to an environmentally friendly laundry facility where the latest
technology is used for washings that require virtually no water, according
to the brand. Ozone has also been replaced by harmless bleaching agents to
cut down on water use, and ‘worn’ looks have been achieved using laser
techniques instead of toxic chemicals.

Samsøe Samsøe said in a press release that the Blue Belief programme
fits in with the brand’s plan to implement more sustainable fabrics into
its products, and that from pre-spring 2020, around 80 percent of the
its standard range will meet the same requirements.

In addition to the new jeans line, Samsøe Samsøe has also joined the
Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s ‘New Plastics Economy Global Commitment’ and
in doing so has pledged to reduce its consumption of single-use plastic through
improved working methods, more training and increased use of alternatives
such as FSC paper and recycled products.

Blue Belief will be available online and in stores from October 2019.
For every item sold, one euro will go to the non-profit organization
‘Charity: Water’ which supplies clean drinking water to some of the
world’s poorest communities.

Neymar leaving PSG would embarrass Ligue 1, says Lyon president Aulas

The French champions do everything they can to keep the Brazilian in Paris, says one of the club’s chief rivals

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has told Paris Saint-Germain to do whatever it takes to keep Neymar.

Neymar, 27, is heavily linked with a move away from the Ligue 1 champions this close season, with a return to Barcelona mooted just two years after his world-record switch.

While the Brazil star staying at PSG would only make Thomas Tuchel’s men stronger, Aulas said they needed to keep the forward.

“It’s embarrassing for Ligue 1 if at one point the TV rights bidding was done with visibility that included Neymar,” he told Le Parisien on Wednesday.

“He was before at Barca. With a very big cheque, he arrived in Paris. I think PSG have to do what it takes to keep him.

“But as president of OL, I am in a bad position to judge.”

Lyon have gone through plenty of change in the off-season, with Sylvinho replacing Bruno Genesio at the helm and Juninho arriving as sporting director.

The likes of Ferland Mendy (Real Madrid), Tanguy Ndombele (Tottenham) and captain Nabil Fekir (Real Betis) have been sold from the squad that finished third in Ligue 1 last season.

Aulas hopes his club can close the gap to PSG, but warned they will need chase down the top team in the league.

He is hoping by the time the next World Cup rolls around his side can be back in contention with the Paris outfit, but says the prospects for the coming season aren’t great.

“In the medium term, yes [Lyon can compete with PSG]. We want to play a role. We will continue to invest. The goal is to get closer to PSG,” he said.

“But the first year will be the hardest. You have to be patient. It is a project of three to five years. Before, it’s illusory.

“The deadline of 2022, given the budget gap between the two clubs, must be reasonable.”

Lyon open their Ligue 1 campaign away to Monaco on Friday, with their first clash against PSG set to come in late September.

Martial can become one of the best strikers if Man Utd use him right – Berbatov

The former Red Devils frontman believes the France international forward can star for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer if given the regular game time he craves

Anthony Martial can become “one of the best, best strikers” if Manchester United use him correctly, says Dimitar Berbatov.

The Red Devils have invested considerable faith in the France international since acquiring him from Monaco in the summer of 2015.

A transfer package worth up to £58 million ($70m) was pieced together in order to land an exciting talent then in his teens.

Martial is now 23 years of age and has been tied to another long-term contract at Old Trafford.

There is, however, a sense that United are yet to bring the best out of him, despite handing out over 170 appearances to date.

Berbatov believes that is because a player he briefly worked with in Ligue 1 is not getting the regular game time he needs, or being played in the position which suits him best.

The former Red Devils frontman told Express Sport of a forward who has often been deployed on the flanks: “I am slightly biased, but I think Martial can become one of the best, best strikers.

“It depends on whether he has the attitude, the fighting spirit, but he is so good I think he can become one of the best.

“He has often played two to three games then out for two to three games.

“Two to three games on the bench then two to three games back in the team.

“And then United fans ask, why isn’t he consistent?

“It depends on him, himself, but Martial has to stay at United. He can be a really great player for them.”

Berbatov got a good look at Martial’s potential during a one-season stay at Monaco in 2014-15, with a number of promising performers on the books at Stade Louis II back then.

The enigmatic Bulgarian added: “I had some of the best times of my career at Monaco, and not just because of the city.

“I went there at, I think it was 33, and I went into training and had all these young guys around me.

“There was Martial but also James Rodriguez, [Yannick] Carrasco, Fabinho and all those guys.

“They were running around me and I was like ‘what the f*ck?’.

“But I had some great moments at Monaco.”

Man Utd missed out on signing that would have made ‘big difference’ – Scholes

The former Red Devils midfielder believes Christian Eriksen would have been a shrewd addition, while he also fears for the club’s striking crop

Manchester United missed out on making a signing that could have made a “big difference” during the summer transfer window, says Paul Scholes, with Christian Eriksen billed as the type of player they need.

The Red Devils were heavily linked with the Tottenham playmaker as the Premier League deadline approached.

With the Denmark international having entered the final year of his contract with Spurs, speculation surrounding his future has been stepped up.

He could still get a move before windows close across Europe, with the likes of Real Madrid said to be keen, but United are unable to further bolster their ranks until January.

Club legend Scholes believes they have missed a trick, telling Radio 5 Live: “I was quite excited when Christian Eriksen got mentioned.

“He could have made a big difference to United in the way [Kevin] De Bruyne plays for City, creating chances and scoring goals.

“They haven’t got that but they have some good players so the target is top four and I think they will make it.”

Eriksen would have brought added creativity to United’s ranks had an approach been made, but is not the only player that Scholes feels the Red Devils should have been looking to bring in.

Belgium international striker Romelu Lukaku has been allowed to depart Old Trafford for Serie A giants Inter, leaving Ole Gunnar Solskjaer short on proven goal-getters.

That is a concern for 1999 Treble winner Scholes, who is not convinced that that the options left on the Red Devils’ books are capable of making the club competitive when it comes to bids for top-four finishes and major silverware.

The ex-England international added: “It is a worry for me, the centre-forward position.

“They have got players like [Marcus] Rashford and [Anthony] Martial, [Mason] Greenwood, but are they really No.9s?

Click Here: essendon bombers guernsey 2019

“We have to wait and see. I think they are flipping between being a wide player and being a centre forward.

“They are yet to prove they can score 25-30 goals a season.”

United will get the chance to prove that they do have enough firepower at their disposal when they open their 2019-20 Premier League campaign with a testing home date against Chelsea on Sunday.

Everton confirm loan deal for World Cup winner Sidibe

The France international moves to the Premier League from Monaco, with the Toffees holding the option to make the deal permanent

Everton have confirmed the signing of World Cup winner Djibril Sidibe, who joins the Premier League side on loan from Monaco.

Sidibe heads to Goodison Park on a one-year loan deal for a reported €2.5 million (£2.3m/$2.8m) loan fee with a €14m (£12.9m/$15.7m) option to buy in the summer.

The full-back is Everton’s sixth signing of the summer after Moise Kean, Andre Gomes, Fabian Delph, Jonas Lossl, and Jean-Philippe Gbamin.

“I was very happy to hear a historic and big club like Everton was thinking of signing me,” Sidibe said in a statement

“It was very easy for me. I did not have to reflect for too long before making my decision to come here.

“Everton are recruiting with the intent to win trophies and play on the biggest stage.I am 100 per cent motivated and ready to help the Club achieve its goals and to achieve my own individual goals.”

Lille spend €16.5m of Pepe cash on Trabzonspor star Yazici

The side that finished second in Ligue 1 last term have overhauled the squad in the close season, with their newest arrival joining from Super Lig

Lille have invested a chunk of the €80 million (£73.6m/$89.5m) they received for Nicolas Pepe by signing Turkey midfielder Yusuf Yazici from Trabzonspor for €16.5 million (£15.2m/$18.5m).

After securing a huge fee from Arsenal for Pepe last week, the Ligue 1 club are well-equipped to bolster their squad and 22-year-old Yazici has joined on a five-year deal.

Trabzonspor announced on their website that Lille would initially pay €16.5 million for the full international, plus a further €1m after he plays 25 games for the French club. Lille defender Edgar Ie also moves to Trabzonspor as part of the deal.

Yazici is a left-footed player who Lille, ahead of a Champions League campaign, believe can contribute a steady flow of goals and attacking threat, having scored four league goals from 30 appearances last season playing as either an attacking midfielder or a right-winger.

Lille director general Marc Ingla called Yazici “a major player, already highly appreciated and well-known in his country despite his young age”.

“He brings great technical qualities, an ability to create chances, a very good quality shot and pass with his remarkable left foot, which will come to enrich our team in the season ahead,” Ingla told Lille’s website.

“We’re confident he will continue to progress in our team, and that he will quickly show his talent in Ligue 1 in the Lille shirt and that he will be able to achieve a strong season.”

'Greasy Chip Butty' – Full lyrics to Sheffield United's famous chant

The self-deprecating song is set to be a favourite around the Premier League this season as the Blades fans pay homage to their city

Over the course of the 2019-20 season, one of the most popular chants heard around the terraces of the Premier League is sure to be Sheffield United’s ‘Greasy Chip Butty Song’.

It was evident on Saturday as Chris Wilder’s side returned to the Premier League with a 1-1 draw at Bournemouth. Chris Mepham may have opened the scoring for the Cherries just after the hour mark, but the fans from South Yorkshire were in full voice after Billy Sharp scored a late equaliser to pinch a fine point.

The Greasy Chip Butty Song has been a staple for the Blades since the mid-1980s, when fans adopted the tune of John Denver’s ‘Annie’s Song’ to glorify working-class life in the Yorkshire city with more than a hint of irony and humour.

Rotherham fans may protest that the song originated at Millmoor, but it is Sheffield United who are most widely credited with the chant, although many other clubs, such as Burton Albion, Grimsby Town and even St Helens rugby league have adopted it too.

It refers to traditional working men’s pleasures in the city, from Magnet, the local bitter that is a favourite in Yorkshire, to Woodbine cigarettes to the eponymous chip butty, which is a sandwich in which the filling is chips. Often in Sheffield, these are known as breadcakes.

Blades fans typically can be found chanting this song at the beginning of games, particularly at their Bramall Lane home when the players are coming out onto the field, but occasionally on their travels, too.

When they host Crystal Palace on Sunday, it is sure to be heard shortly before kick-off, with fans hopeful that it will inspire Phil Jagielka, Ollie McBurnie, Sharp & Co. to their first three points of the new season and, ultimately, to a season in which Premier League survival is secured.

Lyrics to the Greasy Chip Butty Song

    You fill up my senses,
    Like a gallon of Magnet,
    Like a packet of Woodbines,
Like a good pinch of snuff,
Like a night out in Sheffield,
    Like a greasy chip butty,
    Like Sheffield United,
    Come fill me again
    Na na na na na…Ooooohh!

Consinee, China’s largest spinner and exporter of cashmere yarn, returned
to New York City again this summer to showcase their fashion capabilities.
The company staged a fashion show at Cipriani Wall Street for the second
year in a row. The event was attended by over 400 guests.

The 200-foot runway was U-Shaped, and set up underneath the 70-foot dome of
the palatial venue. The collection produced by Consinee featured 88

collaborations with various global fashion brands and spent months on the
venue’s overall elaborate design, and four full days setting up the
classical, yet complicated marble background stage.

The show, entitled “Stitched in Time”, the show featured constant
color-changing lighting, and music that was both mysterious and classical.
All of Consinee’s different lines were represented in the show, including
Consinee, Topline, and Icci. The goal for this runway show was to showcase
the company’s full range of production capabilities

“Even though the runway show only lasts for a few dozen minutes, we hope
that hundreds of our industry friends from Europe and the United States can
see that Chinese companies like Consinee devoted great efforts in pursuing
excellence in every single stitch, every single line and every single
product with decades of continuing hard work,” said Consinee Group’s
chairman Boris Xue in a statement. “The show ‘Stitched in Time’ condenses
all the efforts of every Consinee employee. And these efforts and our
high-quality yarn are woven together, like a journey through time. I hope
that our spirit of pursuing excellence and manufacturing high quality
Chinese products will be as timeless and eternal as time.”

Xue said that through such a large-scale presentation involving both the
Chinese and American fashion industries, he hoped to present Consinee’s
devotion and determination in continually pursing excellence and to show
industry friends and clients from all over the world that Consinee’s
high-end cashmere yarn products are bringing a variety of possibilities to
the global fashion industry for sustainable win-win cooperation.
