Hamilton race engineer Bonnington absent in Mexico and Austin

Mercedes race engineer Pete Bonnington, the man who guides Lewis Hamilton on Grand Prix weekends, will miss the Mexican and US races to undergo a personal medical procedure in the UK.

Bonninton – or “Bono” – is the instantly recognizable voice on Hamilton’s radio and the valuable strategist who has helped the Briton secure his four titles with Mercedes.

The scenarios Hamilton needs to bag the title in Mexico

“Bono is not in Mexico this weekend and will not be in Austin either owing to a medical procedure back in the UK,” said a spokesman for Mercedes.

“Lewis will be engineered by Marcus Dudley, usually his performance engineer standing to Bono’s right in the garage.

“Performance engineer for the two weekends will be Dom Riefstahl, who usually runs our race support operations in Brackley.”

Hamilton has a reasonable shot of clinching his sixth world title in Mexico City, but if the 34-year-old secures the crown on Sunday it will be the first time Bonnington won’t be present for the coronation.

The Camp Fire Burned Their Home, But Strong Family Ties Kept Them In Paradise

Chelsea Isaacs sits on the couch in her RV with her 2-year-old twin daughters, Harper and Riley, and her mother, Kim Schwartz, on June 11 in Magalia, Calif. They have been living for almost a year in an RV after the Camp Fire destroyed their home in 2018. A month after their house burned down, Chelsea found out she was pregnant with a second set of twins with her partner, Noah.

Chelsea and Noah Isaacs were busy new parents of twin daughters when they lost their home in the Camp Fire in Paradise, Calif. That same day — Nov. 8, 2018 — Chelsea discovered she was pregnant again; later she would learn it was with another set of twins.

“All of those things kind of created this perfect storm of appreciation for what I’ve got, but then at the same time [there was] this feeling of ‘how is this all going to work?’ that was really overwhelming initially,” Chelsea said.

A view of the canyon in Magalia on Aug. 1. Only a handful of homes in nearby Paradise have been rebuilt since the Camp Fire in November 2018.

The Isaacses evacuated safely, but their home was destroyed. Noah said just two artifacts mysteriously survived unscathed: his 1956 Studebaker Commander, and the small patch of grass beneath it.

Chelsea’s mother, Kim Schwartz, had been living on the Isaacses’ land in a tiny house before the fire and was displaced alongside them. Together, the family stayed with friends and relatives in the weeks after the fire as they assessed their options: Should they rebuild or relocate?

Noah and Kim both work in Chico, a city about 15 miles away, and needed to stay in the area. Noah said he and Chelsea considered buying a home in a neighboring town, but it was costly and just didn’t feel right. Rebuilding a new house on the same property ultimately proved the better option for insurance purposes, as they could build a bigger structure from scratch at a reasonable cost.

“Really, as crappy as everything went … when everything’s said and done and we look back, we’ll say that might have been one of the best things that’s happened to us,” Noah said. “And I know a lot of people can’t say that.”

Chelsea holds her newborn twin boys, August and Bishop, while Noah watches Harper and Riley play outside their RV in August. Since the fire, Chelsea, Noah and Chelsea’s mother decided to rebuild their home in Paradise, on their same piece of land.

A year after the fire, only 11 of the 11,000 homes destroyed in Paradise have been rebuilt. Noah credited his cousin, a longtime general contractor, and Chelsea’s grandfather, an architect, with respectively providing the industry knowledge and “fair deal” needed to jump-start the process efficiently.

The Isaacses place an enormous value on family. It’s the reason they are able to rebuild in an area that was ravaged by fires, and the reason they want to stay there in the first place.

The Isaacses place an enormous value on family. It’s the reason they are able to rebuild in an area that was ravaged by fires, and the reason they want to stay there in the first place.

“I know we couldn’t leave this area too far because we have everybody here, all our family’s here and that’s really important to us,” Chelsea said. “Noah has … people who babysat him when he was a child that he still talks to, and stuff like that. I want my kids to have that.”

Chelsea said thinking about her growing family helped her get through this period of uncertainty. The timing was “kind of perfect,” she said, because it gave her an opportunity to focus on something other than the fire. And it forced her to keep stress-induced habits, like eating junk food and smoking cigarettes, at bay.

Kim Schwartz holds Bishop. Kim will move into a tract home on a piece of land next to Chelsea and Noah’s house. She is excited to have her own place but still be near her four grandchildren, with whom she hopes to arrange monthly individual overnights for quality one-on-one time.

With construction underway, Kim, Chelsea, Noah and their girls — who were less than 2 years old at the time — moved into a temporary home. They bought an RV and parked it on a friend’s vacant lot in nearby Magalia. Two newborns, both male, joined them in July 2019.

Space in the trailer is limited, but used efficiently. For example, Kim says there is just enough room for two pack and play cribs at the back of the RV, and she sleeps in the loft.

Noah and Chelsea take their kids to look at the new house they’re rebuilding in Paradise.

Kim says her family is “exceptional at this situation.” They have always been close and have adapted to their new routine.

Still, life in the RV has its challenges. Privacy is limited, the structure doesn’t necessarily feel stable or safe, and it is parked in a relatively remote area surrounded by trees — a fire hazard that makes Chelsea nervous. Beyond that, when her daughters play inside, they shake the thin-walled structure and wake up their brothers, and Chelsea wishes she didn’t have to tell them “no” so much.

Chelsea takes her kids grocery shopping. The family won’t miss the RV when it’s time to move into their new home in January. They are looking forward to the big things, like making the house their own, and the little things, like having better water pressure.

“At least we have something that’s ours again, we’re regaining something,” Chelsea said. “But then having to adapt to how different our lives had become overnight was … intense.”

The family members say they are thankful for their time in the trailer. It gave them a place to call home in a time of extreme transition. And, as Noah says, it brought them literally and figuratively closer together.

Chelsea watches Harper and Riley while Kim plays with August and Bishop, in their RV. Noah and Chelsea don’t know how it will feel to be back in their house, one of the first on their street to be rebuilt.

But they won’t miss it when it’s time to move into their new home in January. They are looking forward to the big things, like making the house their own, and the little things, like having better water pressure.

“I think I’ll … take the things that I’ve learned here, and the patience that I’ve had to gain with my kids and with Noah and with my mom, and I’ll take those things and use them in the future and credit this time in the trailer to it,” Chelsea said. “But I don’t know that I’ll be like, ‘Man, I wish I was … standing under that trickling shower.’ “

Schwartz will move into a tract home on a piece of land next to Chelsea and Noah’s house. She is excited to have her own place but still be near her four grandchildren, with whom she hopes to arrange monthly individual overnights for quality one-on-one time.

Noah and Chelsea hug after taking the kids to look at their new house that’s being rebuilt in Paradise. The family members say they are thankful for their time in the trailer; it gave them a place to call home in a time of extreme transition.

Noah and Chelsea don’t know how it will feel to be back in their house, one of the first on their street to be rebuilt. Grocery stores in Paradise won’t have everything they need, and as far as they know their kids won’t have others to play with in the neighborhood. But returning to their old property feels right, and Chelsea says that if that changes, they will reevaluate.

“You wouldn’t be able to pick our yard out of any other yard on the street because they’re all the same, just dirt,” she said. “But that dirt felt like ours still. It still felt like we weren’t done there yet, and it felt in a good way, like we need to be here.”

Guardiola and Klopp inducted into LMA Hall of Fame

The two coaches have been recognised for their historic achievements in football management to date

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola and Liverpool counterpart Jurgen Klopp have been inducted into the League Manager Association’s (LMA) Hall of Fame.

The LMA announced the pair’s induction on Thursday, in recognition of their historic achievements in football management to date.

The duo follow the likes of  Brian Clough, Sir Bobby Robson and Arsene Wenger, who have previously been inducted into the LMA Hall of Fame.

Guardiola and Klopp are going head-to-head for Premier League supremacy this season as Liverpool and Manchester City look set to battle atop the Premier League once again.

The two collided at Anfield earlier this month, with Klopp’s Liverpool topping Guardiola’s Man City 3-1 to open up a gap atop the Premier League table.

City boss Guardiola is seeking a third successive Premier League crown, while Klopp is looking to deliver Liverpool’s first league title since 1990.

“What a privilege. When you come down the corridor and see all the big names, big managers, big personalities being here that would’ve helped to make football better, football that we have right now,” Guardiola said.

“I think all the managers here that have been inducted into the Hall of Fame is because we were in incredible clubs with incredible players.

“As long as we can help them and try to think on the same side and the same page, that’s the only reason we can do what we do as managers.

“Without the quality of the players we have, the managers cannot have success.”

Appointed in 2015, Klopp has led Liverpool to Champions League and UEFA Super Cup glory following the club’s runners-up European finish in 2017-18.

“It’s big, it’s really big. When I first heard about it [the honour] I couldn’t believe it,” he said.

“I’ve now been in England for a bit longer than four years and I’ve enjoyed each second, to be honest.

“I saw all the names with the pictures when I came in, it’s really impressive.

“I don’t often feel pride but, in this moment, I’m very proud because this is something really, really special.”

Liverpool – eight points clear atop the Premier League summit – host Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday, while City travel to Newcastle United.

F1 begins quest to become Net Zero Carbon by 2030

Formula 1 has announced a comprehensive sustainability plan and green campaign that will lead to the sport having a net zero carbon footprint by 2030.

The environmental endeavor is the result of F1 and the FIA working closely together with sustainability experts in the past twelve months to deliver an achievable plan targeting a reduction of the sport’s emissions.

The initiative, which also involves F1 teams, race promoters and partners, will include the cars and on-track activity as well as all on-site and peripheral operations linked to the sport.

Six years after the advent of the 1.6-liter V6 turbo hybrid engine, which has placed F1 “at the forefront of automotive innovation”, the sport now has “a global platform to accelerate progress and develop technologies that reduce and eliminate carbon emissions from the current internal combustion engine”.

F1 to ‘selectively drop’ certain races in future – Carey

F1’s plan also includes actions “to ensure F1 moves to ultra-efficient logistics and travel and 100% renewably powered offices, facilities and factories”.

Grand Prix racing also seeks to ensure that all its events are sustainable by 2025, eliminating therefore single-use plastics while all waste shall be “reused, recycled or composted”.

F1 will also rely on spectators to do their part, providing “incentives and tools to offer every fan a greener way to reach the race and ensure circuits and facilities enhance fan wellbeing and nature”.

To help deliver its sustainability plan, F1 will work with the FIA and all of its partners, promoters, sponsors and the teams, many of which have already started tackling the sustainability issue.

F1 also revealed that the sport’s carbon footprint in 2019 will total 256,551 tonnes of CO2, but power unit emissions from the 20 cars on the grid will only account for 0.7% of the total volume of CO2.

However, emissions from logistics – meaning “all road, air or sea logistics across the sport including the movement of teams equipment, F1 equipment, Paddock Club equipment and race tyres” – represent the biggest portion of F1’s footprint, with a contribution estimated at 45%.

©RedBull

“Over its 70-year history, F1 has pioneered numerous technologies and innovations that have positively contributed to society and helped to combat carbon emissions,” says F1 CEO Chase Carey.

“From ground-breaking aerodynamics to improved brake designs, the progress led by F1 teams has benefitted hundreds of millions of cars on the road today.

“Few people know that the current F1 hybrid power unit is the most efficient in the world, delivering more power using less fuel, and hence CO2, than any other car.

“We believe F1 can continue to be a leader for the auto industry and work with the energy and automotive sector to deliver the world’s first net zero carbon hybrid internal combustion engine that hugely reduces carbon emissions around the world.

“In launching F1’s first-ever sustainability strategy, we recognise the critical role that all organisations must play in tackling this global issue.

“By leveraging the immense talent, passion and drive for innovation held by all members of the F1 community, we hope to make a significant positive impact on the environment and communities in which we operate.

“The actions we are putting in place from today will reduce our carbon footprint and ensure we are net zero carbon by 2030.”

FIA President Jean Todt underscored the broader implication of Formula 1’s commitment to sustainability.

“Our commitment to global environmental protection is crucial,” insists Todt.

“The FIA welcomes this Formula 1 initiative. It is not only very encouraging for the future of motorsport, but it could also have strong benefits for society as a whole.

“This strategy is in line with initiatives started some years ago by the FIA with the creation of the Environmental Accreditation Programme, more recently with the FIA Environment and Sustainability Commission, and researches on renewable racing fuel.

“Furthermore, in 2014 we introduced the hybrid power unit in Formula 1, which was essential for the development of motorsport’s highest category.

“It is the same reason that led us to maintain this philosophy within the framework of the Formula 1 regulations applicable from 2021.

“With the involvement of the teams, drivers, F1’s numerous stakeholders, and crucially the millions of fans around the world, the FIA and Formula 1 are committed to driving development and ensuring motorsport grows as a laboratory for environmentally beneficial innovations.”

Coulthard says Binotto will sort out Ferrari’s driver problem

Former Formula 1 driver turned commentator David Coulthard is confident that Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto will sort out the simmering situation between Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc.

The pair had clashed earlier int he season over team orders, but on Sunday in Brazil they made light contact while running fourth and fifth. The clash put both cars out of the race with six laps remaining.

“It was a misunderstanding between the two drivers and a sad day for Ferrari,’ former Ferrari driver Rubens Barrichello told Bild newspaper.

  • Binotto orders sit-down with Leclerc and Vettel in Maranello

Immediately after the race, Binotto was clearly furious and embarrassed about what had unfolded just moments before. He ordered the drivers to attend a summit at Maranello this week to discuss the situation.

“We now need to sit down and decide together where the limits are to make sure we all push for the benefit of the team and make sure these things don’t happen anymore,” he explained.

“Our drivers are very disappointed and sorry from a team perspective. It was a small collision that had a big consequence.”

Binotto confirmed that the drivers had been cleared to fight each other in Brazil and not subject to team orders, as had been the case earlier in the season.

“When we tried to manage the drivers this season we have been criticised,” he pointed out. “And when they are free to fight we may be criticised [for that].

“Today it was right to let them race, certainly, because we [had already] secured second place in the constructor’s championship.

Click Here: Cheap Golf Golf Clubs

“[Even so] this sort of thing should never happen,” Binotto said, adding it was better that this had happened with the 2019 titles already decided as it meant they could learn and put new rules in place in time for next year.

Coulthard backed Binotto as the right man for the job to sort out such recurring internal issues that keep getting between Ferrari and a successful challenge for the world championship.

“I think Mattia has the strength of character and enough history within Ferrari to sit them down and say, ‘Look guys – this isn’t acceptable’,” the Scot told Channel 4.

Simply ignoring the incident and moving on was no longer an option, according to the former McLaren and Red Bull driver.

“I think they will shake hands,” he suggested. “But you’re dealing with two different people, in two different phases of their life – never mind their careers.

“Right now Charles doesn’t know what he doesn’t know at 21,” Coulthard continued. “He hasn’t got the life experience of Seb. He’ll just be like, ‘Okay, I’m not going to put myself in that position again’.

“And in Seb’s case, he knows he’s running out of time. Does he have enough time left in his career to be able to get a World Championship at Ferrari?”

“It’s subtle but the facts are the facts,” he said. “You cannot deny the facts, otherwise the relationship is definitely all over.”

Sky Deutschland commentator Sascha Roos speculated that the Brazil incident could lead to Binotto taking a hard line on team orders for next season.

“I think they would be well advised to set a deadline,” he suggested. “For example after the first four races of the season, they should make a decision on a number one driver.”
