My grandmother (in the middle) and my Aunt Sheri (on the right) both called me the day after the Oscars because I never told them I was a survivor. I was too ashamed. Too afraid. And it took me a long time to even admit it to myself because I'm Catholic and I knew it was evil but I thought it was my fault. I thought it was my fault for ten years. The morning after the Oscars when I talked to my grandmother Ronnie, with tears in her eyes I could hear them welling through the phone she said to me "My darling granddaughter, I've never been more proud of you than I am today." Something I have kept a secret for so long that I was more ashamed of than anything– became the thing the women in my life were the most proud of. And not just any women, the ones I look up to the most. #BeBrave #speakup #tilithappenstoyou

‘Liverpool don’t need Sancho as £75m squad player’ – Borussia Dortmund star deserves to start, says McManaman

The former Reds star is a big fan of the England international winger but doubts that Jurgen Klopp will be plotting a raid on his former club

Jadon Sancho needs to be playing every week if the decision is taken to leave Borussia Dortmund, says Steve McManaman, with Liverpool unlikely to be the right fit in a potential £75 million ($97m) deal.

A move to Anfield has been mooted for the talented teenage winger.

Despite Jurgen Klopp already boasting an enviable collection of forwards in his squad, the German is said to be considering a big-money raid on his former employers in the Bundesliga.

Sancho would be a good fit for the Premier League title hopefuls, with his energy and end product placing him into the same bracket as Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

He will, however, have plenty of options to consider if a transfer door is swung open.

McManaman is not convinced that Liverpool would be the best of them, with fierce competition for places and possible bench time not what Sancho needs at this stage of his career.

The former Reds star told HorseRacing.net: “I think he’d prefer to go somewhere where he will start week-in and week-out. I don’t think there’s any problem with that.

“The other thing is the cost implications. How much is he going to cost? No doubt, he’s an extremely bright prospect, he’s doing really well in Dortmund, he plays regularly and he’s a star there.

“Whether Liverpool would go for him now is something that I don’t know and if he was available, he’d command big money and I presume that there’s a number of clubs that would go for him.

“Jadon could cost £60 million-£75 million and that’s a lot of money for somebody that young even though he looks a fantastic prospect.

“It’s a big outlay for a player and in all honesty Liverpool’s young players are all doing well themselves and Jurgen Klopp seems to want to give them a go.”

Sancho is not the only star currently shining in Germany that Liverpool have been linked with.

As plans are already being drawn up for summer recruitment, it has been suggested that prolific RB Leipzig frontman Timo Werner is another option that Klopp could consider.

‘Fernandes will be like Eriksen or Silva for Man Utd’ – €55m midfielder ‘has the lot’, says ex-Sporting team-mate

The Red Devils have invested heavily in the Portugal international and a former club-mate expects him to be a success at a “monster football club”

Bruno Fernandes “has the lot”, according to former Sporting team-mate Yannick Bolasie, and can become Manchester United’s answer to David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne and Christian Eriksen.

The Red Devils have invested €55 million (£47m/$60m) in the Portugal international midfielder.

They had been in the market for a creative influence to rival the talent possessed by Premier League and European rivals.

Fernandes, after a protracted chase, is considered to be a perfect fit for those at Old Trafford.

Bolasie, who played alongside the 25-year-old at Sporting, is of that opinion and expects a man who had recorded 13 goals and 10 assists this season before heading to Old Trafford to thrive in England.

The former Crystal Palace and Everton forward told The Mirror: “Bruno has the lot to be honest. I think he will cope fine with the expectations.

“When he was at Sporting he controlled all the matches. Everything Sporting did went through him.

“He can play with both feet and is not afraid to shoot with his left but his right foot is his main foot. He can see a pass and has good long-range passing, free-kicks and penalties.

“He is at his best getting on the half turn and making passes in between the lines. He likes giving passes and likes scoring, that is his game. He knows what he can do and is good at and can link up with the forward players really well.

“He has his own style because he has been in Italy before but has similarities to De Bruyne, Silva and Eriksen.”

Bolasie added: “Bruno likes to go and get the ball and might end up on the left side or end up on the right.

“He needs to play with that protection behind to give him that freedom to venture around rather than adapting to the team.

“It will be interesting to see how United end up using him. But he always wanted to play in the Premier League, for sure, and it is going to be a good test for him.

“It’s much slower in Portugal and nowhere near the Premier League’s tempo. In some of the games in Portugal he could probably coast through whereas in the Premier League no matter who you are playing, the opponents won’t let you walk over them.”

Bolasie is not surprised to see Fernandes taking a step up in class and feels United can provide the ideal platform for his undoubted talent.

He said: “It is always going to be a great option and is a good move for Bruno. It is a monster of a football club, it doesn’t matter where they are right now.

“If you go there your life changes – on the field and off the field. He has a chance to shine but football is about results so let’s see.”

Fernandes made his debut for the Red Devils against Wolves, but was unable to prevent them from being held to a goalless draw which has dropped Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side to eighth spot.

‘Chelsea have to be stronger at Stamford Bridge’ – Azpilicueta braced for Man Utd, Spurs & Bayern visits

The Blues skipper admits Frank Lampard’s side have not been as strong as they would have liked on home soil, but the intention is to change that

Cesar Azpilicueta admits that Chelsea have not been “as solid as we would like” at Stamford Bridge this season, with the intention being to change that in upcoming meetings with Manchester United, Tottenham and Bayern Munich.

The Blues are preparing to enter a crucial run of fixtures when they return from their winter break.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils are due in west London on February 17, with a derby date against Spurs then leading into a heavyweight Champions League last-16 encounter with German champions Bayern.

More teams

Chelsea also have a home date with Liverpool fast approaching in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

With those outings having the potential to make or break the 2019-20 campaign for Frank Lampard’s side, Azpilicueta concedes that standards need to be raised.

The Blues skipper told the club’s official website: “We haven’t made Stamford Bridge as solid as we would like this year.

“This is the best time to recover this solidity, with three big games in a row at home where we can show we are ready and able to make Stamford Bridge a tough place to come.

“With the fans we have had some disappointments at home altogether. When these three opportunities come we have to take them one by one, and hopefully we can build up on this. It’s key for the success of the season.”

Azpilicueta will be looking to lead the charge for Chelsea as club captain.

It could be that the Spaniard also chips in with a few more priceless goals, with the 30-year-old defender having contributed a career-best four efforts to the cause so far this season – while seeing two more ruled out by VAR.

“I have improved at my movement attacking set-plays,” added Azpilicueta.

“For most of my career I was not going up for attacking set-plays, but a few years ago I started, and then you improve. At training I work on my movements, getting in to the right spaces.

“I have a determination as well. To be hungry is very important, because I’m not the tallest. I’m pleased to score goals, even if it’s not my main job.”
