Ricochet On Whether We Can Expect Him in WWE Any Time Soon
Indie sensation Ricochet recently sat down with Sports Illustrated to discuss his in-ring career, his future and whether we can expect him in the WWE any time soon
“Right now, I’m enjoying New Japan. I want to focus on that, and that’s another reason why I’m going to take a lighter schedule in 2017 to focus on Japan. I want to do a lot more New Japan, and I’m really focused on winning the IWGP junior heavyweight championship. I want that title so bad. I’ve always had goals, and that is my last goal. After that, I can focus on the long distance future. The guys on the 205 Live cruiserweight show are awesome – my boy Swann is killing it. But that’s not the route I want. I want to go the Fergal Devitt route. Seth Rollins. Kevin Owens. That’s the route I want to take. I want to work my way up from NXT champion to U.S. or Intercontinental champion. I have goals, and I’m not willing to settle. This is nothing against the cruiserweights on 205, but it’s just not for me. My girlfriend, Tessa [Blanchard], was just on Raw [during the bar scene with Cesaro and Sheamus]. I actually drove her there. We were in North Carolina spending time with her family, and she got called a day before. It was pretty cool. I just went golfing the other day with Sami Callihan and Tully Blanchard [Author’s note: Tessa is the daughter of Tully Blanchard] . We played eighteen holes, and Tully won by one-hundred swings. Me and Sami had a match in Iowa, and he gave us some advice, as did Magnum T.A. How cool is that to get advice from Tully Blanchard and Magnum T.A.? They’re both really cool guys and they don’t put you down when they give you advice – they’re trying to help you. Kurt Angle just gave me some advice in Scotland, and he did it purely to help me. Rey Mysterio is the same way – he just wants to help you out, and I think that’s so cool.”

This week’s WWE SmackDown, the first show of 2017 with Dean Ambrose taking the WWE Intercontinental Title from The Miz in the main event, drew 2.596 million viewers. This is down from last week’s 2.885 million viewers, which allowed SmackDown to defeat RAW in viewership and ratings for the first time in the new era.

SmackDown was #10 for the night on cable in viewership, behind The Have & Have Nots, Curse of Oak Island, Fixer Upper, Hannity, The O’Reilly Factor, The Kelly File, Tucker Carlson, Special Report and The Five. SmackDown was #3 in the 18-49 demographic, behind The Have & Have Nots and Curse of Oak Island.

In comparison, Monday’s RAW averaged 3.046 million viewers, up from last week’s 2.855 million viewers.

WWE Considering Big Turn, Must See New Maryse & Noelle Foley, Triple H Ready to Push Former TNA Star on RAW, WrestleMania 33 Main Events, WWE Star Gets Backstage Heat, New GIFs & Galleries, More

As noted, John Cena defeated AJ Styles to become the new WWE Champion at last night’s WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view and Randy Orton won the 30-man main event to earn a title shot at WrestleMania 33. Orton vs. Cena at WrestleMania isn’t locked in as Cena will be forced to defend the WWE Title inside the Elimination Chamber next month. WWE has announced the second entrant for the Chamber – Styles.
They announced the following on Cena and Orton after last night’s pay-per-view:

Randy Orton to compete in the main event of WrestleMania 33
It’s a rivalry without parallel in modern-day WWE, and at WrestleMania 33, career-long foes John Cena and Randy Orton could very well lock horns again — provided Cena makes it to April 2 with his newly won WWE Championship.
The Viper punched his ticket to the main event of WrestleMania by overcoming an all-star field of 29 other competitors to claim the 2017 Royal Rumble Match. Mere hours earlier, The Cenation Leader defeated AJ Styles to win his 16th World Title, a historic feat only accomplished by one other competitor in history: WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair.
While Orton’s opportunity at The Showcase of the Immortals is secure, Cena’s is not, yet. The Champ first must retain the title on Sunday, Feb. 12, in a WWE Championship Elimination Chamber Match announced weeks ago by SmackDown LIVE Commissioner Shane McMahon. As of now, the only other competitor confirmed for that six-Superstar battle is Styles. If Cena is successful at WWE Elimination Chamber, only then will his WrestleMania match against Orton be set in stone.
Putting Elimination Chamber aside for a moment, a WrestleMania main event between Cena and Orton would be a fitting, if not poetic, way to celebrate both Superstars’ 15-year anniversaries in WWE. The Champ and The Viper have been peers throughout their remarkable careers, beginning with their training in former WWE developmental territory Ohio Valley Wrestling, and they have waged war in many a WWE pay-per-view main event over the years.

Protesters from the Balkans and worldwide are expected to descend on Stockholm today as the Nobel Prize for Literature is handed to an Austrian author accused of supporting the genocidal Serbian regime of Slobodan Milosevic.

The awarding of this year’s top literature accolade to Peter Handke has prompted an uproar in the region where the wars of the 1990s still cause discord.

The ambassadors of Bosnia, Albania and Kosovo, Croatia, Macedonia and Turkey have vowed to boycott the ceremony, and a 58,000 strong petition has called for the award to be revoked.

Mr Handke, now 77, was in his prime as an author when war broke out between the constituent republics of the former Yugoslavia.

He claimed the coverage of the war unfairly demonised Serbs as a people over Croats, Bosniaks and Albanians.

Since then, Mr Handke has continued to make statements presenting events from the point of view of Serbian nationalist politicians. In 2006, Mr Handke spoke at the funeral of Milosevic, who died while on trial in the Hague over war crimes.

Emir Suljagic leads the Srebrenica Memorial Center, devoted to the memory of the over 8,000 men and boys killed by Bosnian Serb forces in a single day in the Bosnian town of Srebrenica.

He is a survivor of the genocide himself, and flew to Stockholm to join a group that will protest at Tuesday’s ceremony. “I am in Stockholm to protest the award being given to a man who negates my suffering and the suffering of so many others.”

Mr Handke has declined to address the controversy, telling a press conference on Friday that he would not answer " empty and ignorant questions".

The downplaying of war crimes is still an issue among the states that emerged from the Yugoslav conflict, with both political elites and influential voices trying to minimise their country’s role in the war by pointing fingers at the other.

The majority Muslim Bosniaks in Bosnia and Herzegovina are particular targets of this revisionism.

“Awarding this to Peter Handke sends a message that the suffering of Bosniaks or those believed to be Muslims is not something people in Europe today really take seriously,” said Mr Suljagic.

Mr Handke has his supporters. For residents of the sleepy village of Velika Hoca in Kosovo, the former Serbian province where ethnic tensions still dominate interactions between the ethnic Serb minority and the ethnic Albanian majority, Mr Handke is seen as a hero.

“He was one of the few voices who said something in defense of the Serbs in the West,” says Ljubisa Djuricic, a winemaker in this secluded village known for its wine production and its medieval Serbian Orthodox churches. The Nobel laureate donated about 100,000 euros to the village and said he wanted to enter monkhood there. “Handke is my personal hero.”

But Blend Berisha, an ethnic Albanian who comes from a village bordering Velica Hoca, says that the announcement of the Nobel prize winner made him remember a time he would rather forget.

“We are trying to get along with our Serbian neighbors despite the painful memories of the past, and this award made us remember why we started fighting in the first place.”

Former WWE Light Heavyweight Champion Duane “Gillberg” Gill made his WWE return on last night’s RAW from Las Vegas.

During the Festival of Friendship with WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens and WWE United States Champion Chris Jericho, which later saw Owens turn on Jericho, Jericho called out Owens’ WWE Fastlane opponent Bill Goldberg but we got Gillberg instead. Owens quickly destroyed him at ringside and went on to turn on Jericho.
