WWE Royal Rumble 2019: Kickoff Show Matches Announced For 1/27 PPV

On Tuesday evening, WWE announced Rusev vs. Shinsuke Nakamura for the WWE United States Championship and Buddy Murphy vs. Kalisto vs. Akira Tozawa vs. Hideo Itami in a Fatal-4-Way match for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship at this Sunday’s WWE Royal Rumble 2019 Kickoff Show pre-show on the WWE Network.

With that now known, featured below is an updated look at the advertised lineup for this Sunday’s big pay-per-view event from Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona.

WWE RAW Viewership (12/17): Vince McMahon's Return Boosts Numbers

The numbers are in for this week’s post-TLC episode of RAW, and the news is good.

The Monday, December 17th edition of RAW, which featured the heavily advertised return of Vince McMahon finished with an average of the 2.55 million viewers, according to Showbuzz Daily.

By comparison, last week’s show drew 2.19 million viewers, which was 16 percent lower than this week’s show.

The hourly viewership breakdown for Monday’s RAW went as follows:

8 p.m. 2.72 million viewers
9 p.m. 2.56 million viewers
10 p.m. 2.37 million viewers

Chyna's Mother: "WWE Listen Up And Do What's Right For Chyna!!"

Jan LaQue, mother of the late former WWE performer Joanie “Chyna” Laurer, took to social media this week to write a message directed towards WWE.

LaQue took to Facebook on what would have been the birthday of Chyna on Friday to write the following:

“As many of you know, yesterday would have been Joanie’s (Chyna’s) birthday. I truly appreciate all of the messages and remembrances of her that were posted by so many of you. As you can imagine, it’s always a very sad day for me. But it helps a lot to know how many people remember her and loved her. It’s one of the worst things in the world to lose a child. We HAVE to get her into the WWE hall of fame. She richly deserves to be there.

“WWE – LISTEN UP and do what’s right for Chyna!! You owe her that for what she did for you and women’s wrestling. She earned her place there. And it’s long overdue.”

WWE posted a new video dubbed, “Braun Strowman’s elbow surgery and harrowing rehab: Remaking The Monster – Episode 1” on their official YouTube channel.

The video takes an in-depth look at the recent elbow surgery the WWE veteran underwent. The official description for the episode, which you can view in its’ entirety below, reads as follows:

“Get an all-access look at Braun Strowman’s elbow surgery and the first steps in his rehab journey as he works his way back to the ring.”

News on AEW Double or Nothing Event; Details on AEW's Other Upcoming Shows

— The original plan for AEW’s “Double or Nothing” was for the event to take place at the T-Mobile Arena on 5/25, notes the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. However, the arena contacted Tony Khan and informed him that the Las Vegas Golden Knights NHL team would get first preference if they are still in the Stanley Cup playoffs and had a home game scheduled on 5/25. If that happened, AEW would have to move the show and scramble for a new venue.

— While the chances of this happening were slim, AEW decided that they would move to a new venue right from the beginning rather than cause potential problems close to the event. Las Vegas was selected as the host city because AEW officials believe that people will generally want to fly into a city like that, helping attendance.

— The second AEW show is scheduled to take place during the summer – likely July – in Jacksonville, with a large percentage of profits going to benefit victims of gun violence. The third show – not yet announced – is probably going to be in Chicago over Labor Day weekend, perhaps as the first anniversary of the first All In.

NSA Protests Reach Doorstep of Pelosi's Wealthy Donors

Protests against NSA spying have reached all the way to the home of House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi’s big campaign fundraiser.

And this time, the protests are coming from a group that includes professed Democrats—a notable departure from the silence and inaction of the Democratic machine as the Obama Administration’s NSA spying scandal ripples across the globe.

Over 70 people picketed Saturday afternoon outside of the Belvedere, California home where congressman Jared Huffman was throwing a big fundraising bash for Pelosi.

The fundraiser took place just weeks after Pelosi forcefully defended the NSA’s warrantless spying programs and denounced NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden as a ‘criminal’ at a NetRoots Nation conference in San Jose, California. Her statement at the conference was met with loud boos and heckles from the crowd.

The boisterous picket in this wealthy neighborhood—organized by the Coalition for Grassroots Progress, an organization for ‘progressive change’—featured colorful signs that declared “One nation under surveillance” and denounced ‘Big Brother.’

“The question I think we need to ask ourselves, in light of these new revelations, is how much longer can we afford to bankrupt ourselves morally and financially in the name of security?” Caroline Banuelos—president of the Sonoma County Latino Democratic Club—told the Marin Independent Journal. “Do we really feel safer by allowing our representatives to take away our civil liberties?”

“I’m pleased there is this groundswell,” declared former congressional candidate Norman Solomon. “We’re just getting started and we’re not going to let this subside.”

Civil liberties advocates have blasted the Democratic party for standing idly by as the NSA spying scandal stokes ire and grassroots opposition across the world. Criticism also extends to Democratic party-tied organizations like MoveOn.org that do not have much to say about a scandal seizing international headlines.

A recent poll by Pew Research Center shows that Democrats have flipped on civil liberties violations under Obama: while a majority of Democrats declared NSA spying unacceptable under former President George Bush, a majority of democrats now think Obama’s NSA is acceptable.

Booker T On Rousey vs. Banks Expectations, WWE Women's Tag Titles

On a recent episode of his “Heated Conversations” podcast, WWE Hall Of Famer Booker T spoke about the upcoming RAW Women’s Championship contest between Ronda Rousey and Sasha Banks at the WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view, the introduction of the WWE Women’s Tag-Team Championships and more. Featured below are some of the highlights from the show.

On having high expectations for Ronda Rousey vs. Sasha Banks: “It could be the best women’s match that we’ve seen thus far – and really, I’m not just saying that – as far as Ronda Rousey goes. As far as Ronda going out there and having that match to where she look back and say, ‘Man, that was so, so good.’ Sasha Banks, she’s one of the best. And she’ll throw caution to the wind. She puts herself in certain positions sometimes where it scares me – seriously – inside of the ring, as well as outside of the ring. She’s just one of those type that just will put herself out there and you got to love that. That’s what the business is about, it’s not ballet or anything like that. Ronda Rousey’s definitely gonna be tested as far as her cardio and endurance goes because Sasha can go all night long. I’m looking forward to it. All around, the ladies are doing some crazy stuff.”

On WWE Women’s Tag-Team Championships and the women’s Elimination Chamber: “I was in the first Elimination Chamber match and that was here in my hometown. It’s gonna be huge, that match right there for the ladies to determine something that they have been waiting for so many years, the tag team champions. And what’s crazy, is the tag team champions, obviously, are going to represent on both brands. They’ll take on all comers. Especially at the pay-per-views, it’s gonna make it even more interesting. I don’t know, but that’s the way I’m feeling like, because there’s gonna one [group] from SmackDown, one [group] from RAW, somebody’s got to win that thing, it’s got to go to one brand. But that thing’s got to be able to float around because every woman out there in the company gonna want a taste of it. It’s the WWE Tag Team Champions, not the SmackDown or RAW version, so I see everybody getting a shot. This is global, man.”

Update: Dean Ambrose Already Being Written Out Of WWE Storylines?

As Jeff Whalen reported on Tuesday morning, Dean Ambrose has apparently given his notice to WWE. The longtime top WWE Superstar is expected to be gone from the company shortly after WrestleMania 35 when his current contract expires at the end of April, according to a report from PWTorch.com.

F4WOnline.com is reporting that WWE could be writing Ambrose out of television storylines sooner than some might think.

The original report from Pro Wrestling Torch stated the following:

“Sources tell PWTorch that Ambrose has been long frustrated with the creative direction of his character and reached a breaking point recently. He’s indicated to WWE management this weekend he’s not interested in negotiating further and made it clear this isn’t about trying to get more money.”

According to the report from The Wrestling Observer at F4WOnline, the way WWE handled Ambrose on Monday’s RAW could be an indication that he is already slowly being phased down, and eventually out, of WWE storylines.

Following his interaction with Triple H and Seth Rollins in the opening segment of the post-Royal Rumble edition of RAW on Monday night, Ambrose immediately lost to Rollins in a one-on-one match.

After that, the former member of The Shield sat in an unfolded steel chair in the middle of the ring with a microphone. He appeared to be gearing up to cut what felt like a serious promo until out of nowhere, Nia Jax’s theme music hit and out she came with Tamina.

Jax made her way to the ring along with Tamina and went face-to-face with Ambrose. The two talked off-mic to each other briefly before Jax knocked Ambrose out of the ring. Ambrose, from the floor, was held back by several WWE ringside officials as the segment came to an abrupt end.

From there, WWE.com immediately interviewed Ambrose as he made his way backstage at the Talking Stick Resort Arena after the segment. Ambrose noted that he is going to assume that Jax tripped and fell into him and wasn’t actually trying to start a real physical altercation.

With Ambrose going from being eliminated by NXT Superstar Aleister Black in the 30-man Royal Rumble match to losing to Rollins on RAW and then to an apparent storyline with Nia Jax, it looks as though WWE could already be starting the process of phasing Ambrose out of storylines.

WWE 205 Live, Feb. 5, 2019: Will Humberto Carrillo accept advice from Gulak and Gallagher?

Last week on WWE 205 Live, Drew Gulak and Gentleman Jack Gallagher extended an offer to assist Humberto Carrillo in hopes that the Cruiserweight’s newest Superstar would join their cause for a better WWE 205 Live. Plus, why did Ariya Daivari viciously attack Hideo Itami?

Why did Ariya Daivari disrespect Hideo Itami?

Despite both losing in a Fatal 4-Way Match during Royal Rumble Kickoff, Hideo Itami and former WWE Cruiserweight Champion Akira Tozawa set out to prove they were still ripe for WWE Cruiserweight Championship contention last week on WWE 205 Live. After a hard-hitting contest, Tozawa emerged victorious and celebrated with his ally, The Brian Kendrick.

After checking on his own cohort – the vanquished Itami – Ariya Daivari shocked the WWE Universe by leveling the Japanese legend with a savage clothesline. Daivari didn’t offer much of an explanation as to why he attacked Itami, who has been something of a mentor to Daivari since The Persian Lion returned from injury, but it proved that Daivari was indeed more ruthless than ever.

Will Daivari explain why he decimated Itami, or will he just let his actions continue to speak louder than words?

Should Humberto Carrillo risk crossing Drew Gulak and Gentleman Jack Gallagher?

Last week, Drew Gulak and Gentleman Jack Gallagher focused their attention on Humberto Carrillo, volunteering to be in his corner during his next match. Of course, Gulak and Gallagher cited Carrillo’s high-flying abilities, but they noted that the young Superstar should learn to hone his technical abilities and learn from them.

In his WWE 205 Live debut, Carrillo answered an open challenge from WWE Cruiserweight Champion Buddy Murphy. Despite losing to the titleholder, Carrillo impressed WWE 205 Live General Manager Drake Maverick enough to earn a spot on the roster. The very next week, Carrillo defeated Gran Metalik in an excellent showcase of his in-ring arsenal.

Carrillo’s future is bright, so it’s no wonder Gulak and Gallagher want to join forces with him. However, if Carrillo refuses the offer to align with the cruel duo, he should be ready for a fight, as the no-nonsense Gulak and Gallagher have been known to mercilessly target anyone who draws their ire.

On Sunday afternoon, WWE announced a big match for the WWE Elimination Chamber “go-home” episode of WWE SmackDown Live this coming Tuesday evening.

WWE announced that a “high-stakes” Gauntlet Match will take place to determine who will enter the WWE Championship Elimination Chamber Match last at this coming Sunday night’s WWE Elimination Chamber 2019 pay-per-view.
