MMA News: Fedor's Next Fight Announced, Rampage Lands Movie Role, Couture

— UFC star Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has been cast in the A-Team movie based on the popular 1970s televison show. Rampage will play will play the role of B.A. Baracus, made famous by WrestleMania 1 main eventer Mr. T. The film begins shooting next year.

— On Wednesday afternoon at Fedor Emelianenko’s public workout session in New York City, Strikeforce CEO and founder Scott Coker announced that Fedor’s (30-1) first opponent under the Strikeforce banner will be undefeated heavyweight contender Brett Rogers (10-0). No date or venue has been announced for the fight, but its been discussed that Fedor’s first fight would take place in October or Nevember.

— Randy Couture is doing a video blog series leading up to his fight against Minotauro Nogueira this Saturday night on Pay-Per-View. Part 1 is now online and can be viewed at YouTube.com.

New Diva Debuts Tonight On ECW (SPOILER), "Superstars" Rating, Bob Barker

— Developmental talent Angela Fong, 24, made her much anticipated WWE debut at tonight’s ECW taping in Rockford, Illinois. The former BC Lions Felions Dance Team cheerleader was introduced under the name “Savannah.” It would appear that she’s the new backstage announcer for ECW as she conducted an interview with Tommy Dreamer and Christian during tonight’s show.

Fong actually made her first appearance in WWE during the 2007 Diva Search and though she didn’t make the cut, the company would sign her to a developmental contract in February 2008. She has been working as both as wrestler and ring announcer in Florida Championship Wrestling ever since.

— Last week’s edition of WWE Superstars on WGN America drew a 0.8 cable rating. The 11:00 p.m. replay drew a 0.2 rating.

Hulk Hogan Threatens Musician, Dwayne Johnson's New Movie, Trish's Wii Game

— An audio clip has leaked online of a voicemail message Hulk Hogan left for musician Chase Holfelder, the lead singer of the band The Mile After. Hogan tells Holfelder that he’s messed with the wrong girl (presumably his daughter Brooke) and threatens to have Hells Angels break his legs. To listen to the voicemail message, click here.

— Former WWE Diva Trish Stratus spoke to GameDibs.com this week about the development of her new yoga video game that’s coming out next year for the Nintendo Wii.

— Dwayne Johnson’s next film “The Tooth Fairy” will be released on 1/22/10. The comedy film is produced by 20th Century Fox and stars Johnson as hockey player sentenced to work as the tooth fairy for a week.

WWE Raw Rating, NFL Game Does Biggest Rating In Cable TV History

The October 5th edition of WWE Raw hosted by Ben Roethlisberger drew a 3.3 rating, up from last week’s 3.1. The show did hours of 3.32 and 3.29.

The fact that Raw’s rating increased is quite impressive, as the show was up against some very stiff competition. Last night’s NFL Monday Night Football game on ESPN featuring Bret Favre leading the Minnesota Vikings to victory over his old squad, the Green Bay Packers, scored a huge 15.3 rating with a staggering 21.8 million viewers. It was the most watch show in the history of cable television.

It’s been said that WWE booked NFL star Ben Roethlisberger to host Raw last night was an attempt to counter the big Monday Night Football game. Considering there were so many football fans watching television last night, there’s a good chance many of them jumped over to Raw to see Roethlisberger and the Steelers on Raw.

SmackDown vs. Raw 2010 Video Game Reviewed & Now On Sale

The new WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010 video game is now available the PS3, XBOX 360, Wii, DS, PSPand PS2 consoles. (Buy at Amazon.com)

Video game site IGN.com has posted a review of the game and gave it an 8.5/10 – Great. Reviewer Gregory Miller had a lot of good things to say about this year’s installment, as there have been improvements in many aspects of the game. You can read IGN.com’s full written review of the game here and watch their video review of the game here. Some of this year’s improvements include:

— The presentation of the game is better than ever, “practically nonexistent” load times and plenty of small details (the WWE live logo, the end of show copyright, etc.) that make this feel like you’re watching a real WWE broadcast.

— The Royal Rumble match has been completely redesigned from the ground up and is more authentic than ever.

— WWE Story Designer is another brand new addition to the game this year. Players the ability to create their own original story.

— Created Superstars, highlight reels, created finishing moves, and screenshots can all be uploaded online and downloaded by other players.

— The characters models continue to evolve, looking “as good as ever”. The animations are smooth and everything seems to move fluidly.

— The new blood system is said to be a great feature, with cuts starting small and blood flow increasing as more damage is done.

WWE still undecided on top WrestleMania 37 matches

A report by Dave Meltzer in the new issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter explains why the direction for the top matches at WrestleMania 37 remains unclear:

The reason there has been no television direction for the main matches at Mania and you don’t hear anything about them is because there isn’t any. The only thing we know is the top Raw championship matches are not locked in. On SmackDown, Reigns has two different opponents that are being considered so Bryan is not a lock and at least as of this past week, Nakamura was not one of the two under consideration as of last week, even after the gauntlet. Then again, if you followed the Kingston deal a few years ago if they sense people want something, it’s possible to change and in fact, plans change daily anyway. But with no crowds, while plans will change, the change to Nakamura in that spot is less likely but nothing is impossible.

Meltzer also reports that as of earlier this week, WWE is planning for an attendance of 30,000 on each night of WrestleMania 37:

Inside WWE, the plan looks to be to put 30,000 people in the building both nights. If the Super Bowl puts in more, they’ll likely put in more. But that was the legit goal as of early in the week. What they’ll announce is anyone’s guess. The shows will likely be four-and-a-half hours with the first match going in the ring at 5:30 p.m. and the targeted ending at 10 p.m. The Tokyo Dome did two five hour shows. The second day was tough, as it was last year, and as it was to a degree with WrestleMania last year, but in the long run it was the best for all concerns. Right now it doesn’t look like that will be the plan going forward, but two shows at four-and-a-half hours leads to better matches and longer matches and higher quality shows than one at seven. Plus there is more money to be made. In the past you could argue it would break tradition or it just wouldn’t work, but New Japan has proven two years running that it does.

WWE announced last weekend that WrestleMania 37 will be held on Saturday, April 10 and Sunday, April 11 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. It was also revealed that WrestleMania 38 is scheduled for April 3, 2022 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas and WrestleMania 39 is set for April 2, 2023 in Inglewood, California at SoFi Stadium.

— There is a glitch in the new SmackDown vs. Raw 2010 video game where one can create a Diva that is pantyless in the “Create a Superstar” mode. Players have been uploading videos of their creations to YouTube, but THQ is having them quickly removed.

— Chris Jericho is featured on the cover of the latest issue of Pro Wrestling Illustrated, which takes an in-depth look at his lengthy wrestling career. Other wrestlers profiled in the magazine include CM Punk, Big Show and TNA stars Kevin Nash, AJ Styles and Team 3D. You can view the cover at www.PWI-Online.com.

Big Show Talks About Hogan & Flair Wrestling Again, When He'll Reitre

WWE unified tag champion the Big Show was interviewed by the UK’s Daily Star this week and commented on Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair returning to the ring later this month in Australia.

Show, a longtime friend of Hulk Hogan, “I just think it was a situation where two guys who love the industry wanted to go again,” he told the Star. “That’s the thing, no matter how long you do this for, or how old you are, you still have a love and a passion for the business. I wish them all the best.”

When asked whether his own career is winding down, he said, “I get sore and a little lame and I have a bad attitude generally – but I still love coming to work. I’m the kind of guy who can’t sit still for longer than two or three days in a row anyway! If there comes a time where I can’t go out and entertain the fans then I’ll call it a day but that’s not here yet. I’m enjoying the moment.”

— As announced tonight on Raw, Bret Hart was invited back to the show by Vince McMahon. “The Hitman” is being advertised to appear at next week’s event in Nashville.

— Tomorrow night’s episode of ECW will see Christian and Kane take on Ezekiel Jackson and William Regal.

— It was officially announced tonight on Raw that the one and only William Shatner will guest host next week’s show. “The Shat” last appeared on Raw fifteen years ago in a memorable segment with Jerry “The King” Lawler.

Jim Ross Blog: Monday's Raw, Sheamus' Push, Elevating Young Stars

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in it entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Some highlights:

Monday’s WWE Raw: “I felt the show needed more bell to bell wrestling. Only two bouts in the two hours stayed with me….Kofi vs. Orton and HHH vs. Jericho. Good to see that Kofi is remaining relevant. Kingston’s growth continues. I don’t get too wrapped up in wins and losses.”

Sheamus’ Push: “Sheamus did not lose any of his ‘steam.’ That was a positive. Too much negative is being made of Sheamus vs. Cena at the TLC PPV. WWE has to try and elevate new talents and Sheamus is getting a shot. He’s a tough guy who works hard. Why shouldn’t Sheamus be given a shot before he’s condemned? Let’s see how his match goes with Cena on PPV before all the ‘internet experts’ anoint this pairing as a failure.

“The theory is to get new bodies in the main event mix. It seems like it is damned if one does and damned if one doesn’t these days with who gets the nudge to the upper regions of the cards. That just too much negativity. That’s exactly why I delete so many emails as they are either overtly negative from start to finish thus depressing to read or they are way too long.”
