RAW & SD! To Be Taped This Weekend, ECW Rating, More Ratings News

– WWE will be taping next week’s television over the weekend due to their upcoming tour of South Africa. SmackDown will be taped Saturday in Cincinnati, Ohio while RAW will be taped on Sunday in Columbus, Ohio.

– Last Tuesday’s edition of ECW on Sci Fi did a 1.3 cable rating which is down significantly from the previous week’s 1.7.

– Speaking of ratings, US Open Tennis did a 1.0 cable rating in RAW’s normal spot on Monday night on the USA Network. Despite the rating being significantly lower, the USA Network likes the affluent audience that tennis brings which usually draws higher ad rates.

Cena & Orton Friends, Pacman's Backstage Reputation In TNA

– John Cena and Randy Orton have become good friends off camera. For years, the two young stars have been groomed by WWE to be the future of the company. They enjoy working together and worked hard to elevate the quality of their matches over the past few months.

– Despite having a lot of heat on him when he came into TNA, Adam “Pacman” Jones actually has a very good reputation backstage. Many felt that TNA was paying way too much for a “celebrity criminal”, but he has been nothing but a pleasure to work with so far. He doesn’t travel with an entourage and he uses the main roster’s locker room. He seems genuinely excited to be involved with wrestling. One wrestler explained, “He seems like a wide-eyed mark .. I mean that in a good way.”

— Former WWE/WCW star Billy Kidman wrestled in the main event at last night’s Florida Championship Wrestling show. He wrestled FCW Southern champion Harry Smith in a losing effort. Kidman was accompanied to the ring by Lacey Von Erich — daughter of Kerry Von Erich who is under a developmental contract to WWE. Unlike Ohio Valley Wrestling, FCW usually doesn’t allow talent not under contract to WWE appear on their shows, so it’s quite interesting that Kidman was allowed to appear on one. Kidman also appeared in a battle royal to name a new number one contender to face Harry Smith. The final three were Kidman, Teddy Hart and G-Rilla. Hart eliminated Kidman with a clothesline but G-Rilla eliminated Hart with a backdrop.

— Matt Sydal, who is now under contract to WWE, suffered a concussion last night in his ROH farewell match with Delirious. Sydal is scheduled to start in OVW soon.

– We are able to confirm that Japanese women’s wrestler The Amazing Kong is backstage at tonight’s TNA Impact tapings at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. She is expected to make her debut with the company tonight and is slated to work the women’s Gauntlet match at TNA’s upcoming Bound for Glory pay-per-view.

– Tonight TNA will tape the October 11th two hour episode of Impact as they taped the entire October 4th episode last night.

– Ric Flair and Maria will be making some promotional appearances on October 19th in Orlando, Florida. Flair was booked through WWE so take that for its worth.

– WWE has announced that World Champion Batista will be signing his new autobiography on November 5th at Borders in Bakersfield, California.

– It appears as if Paul Burchill and Dave Taylor are officially a tag team as they are now working with matching ring gear. This might be a sign that WWE plans to bring them up to the main roster shortly as both are said to be very talented.

Raw hops the pond this week to visit Birmingham, England in what promises to be a bloody good show. But while the Superstars will be hopping the pond, their rivalries will remain firmly entrenched.

Chief among them: Randy Orton vs. Shawn Michaels and Triple H vs. Umaga.

Michaels stunned Orton when he returned from spending months on the sidelines and put him to sleep with Sweet Chin Music. What else does HBK have in store for the Legend Killer? And do his plans include Orton’s newly-won WWE Championship?

Meanwhile, last week, Umaga continued relentlessly punishing Triple H long after the bell had sounded in their Handicap Match pitting The Game against the Samoan Bulldozer & WWE Champion Randy Orton. After adding injury to insult, can Umaga really hope to leave Europe without feeling the wrath of The Game?

Two other Superstars who will be taking their rivalry across the pond are Hardcore Holly and Cody Rhodes. So far, the veteran Holly has bested the upstart Rhodes in two hard-fought, closely-contested wars. With the third time be the charm for Cody Rhodes?

In other action, Beth Phoenix made her Raw debut last week as Women’s Champion and ushered in the self-proclaimed “Era of the Glamazon” only to be embarrassed by former Champ Candice Michelle in a Six-Divas Tag Team Match. The Candy-coated Diva pinned one of the Glamazon’s tag partners to secure the victory and prove that she is still a force to contend with. Will the freshly-crowned Women’s Champion continue to devour her opponents? Or was last week’s hiccup a sign of things to come?

RAW Ratings Update: More Great News For WWE & USA

Yesterday we reported that Monday’s 3-hour RAW Anniversary special drew a 4.1 overall rating. More information has come in regarding RAW’s viewership and it’s great news for WWE and the USA Network.

– The 4.1 household rating is equivalent to 5.77 million viewers.

– This was the highest rated 3-hour RAW ever in the key demographics and overall viewership.

– RAW XV earned the USA Network its best primetime (8-11pm) Monday night viewership since September 11, 2000. That’s for both the P18-49 demographic and overall.

– RAW’s viewership on USA is even more impressive when compared to the big networks. The first hour of RAW had more male 18-49 viewers than ABC and FOX. The second hour of RAW outdrew FOX and the CW network among P18-49 and P25-54. The final hour of RAW beat ABC among P18-49 and outdrew all broadcast networks among M18-49.

Batista Speaks On Melina, Benoit, Feuding With Khali, Reactions To His Book

– Batista recently sat down with the Miami Herald to discuss his new book, Batista Unleashed. In the interview Batista had several noteworthy quotes, below are the highlights:

On WWE removing stuff from the book & Chris Benoit:”I think it was mentioned at one point that it was real touchy with Chris Benoit. They wanted to remove him completely from my story, and I worked hard for them not to. I really didn’t want to feel that Chris wasn’t a major part of my career and life… I loved the guy. I despise what he did, but that doesn’t erase him from my life. I fought to keep him in there and glad they did.”

The backstage reaction to his book: “I haven’t gotten any negative reaction,” said Batista. “I expected Mark Henry to be a little hurt about what I said about him, but nothing I said about him in the book I didn’t say to him. I’m sure it was mentioned to him or he read it, but he hasn’t said anything. He probably won’t because he’s such a good guy. We’re pretty tight, and he knows I don’t ever think he hurt me intentionally.”

Regarding his relationship with Melina: “When I got an earlier version, I actually let her read what I wrote about her before I put it out there,” said Batista. “She said she was cool with it. She had nothing to do with my marriage breaking up. She was okay with me using it.”

On his feud with The Great Khali: “I’ve been struggling these past few months working with the Great Khali who is no super athlete,” said Batista. “Hopefully I can do more things with the Undertaker because I have so much respect for him. I’ve said it years ago that one of my dream matches is versus the Undertaker in Hell in a Cell. It’s still a dream of mine. I’m still keeping my fingers crossed for that.”

WWE Wellness Doctor Reveals Number Of Suspensions Served In Program's History

CNN aired a documentary on pro wrestling called “Death Grip: Inside Pro Wrestling” earlier tonight. The documentary will replay at 8 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

During the documentary, Dr. David Black, who oversees drug testing for WWE, said that the company has handed out a total of 30 suspensions since the implementation of the Substance Abuse and Drug Testing Policy in November 2005. A total of 27 WWE talents that we know of have been suspended during the program’s history, including three individuals that have been suspended twice — so it seems to add up.

The history of the program’s drug offenders includes Randy Orton, Joey Mercury, Rene Dupree (two-time offender), Kurt Angle, Rob Van Dam, Kid Kash, Matt Hardy, Ryan Reeves, Ryan O’Reilly, Balls Mahoney, Drew “Festus Dalton” Hankinson, Andrew “Test” Martin, referee Chris Kay, Jeff Hardy, Chavo Guerrero, Chris Masters (two-time offender), Edge, Funaki, Gregory Helms, Booker T (two-time offender), Charlie Haas, Gene Snitsky, Mr. Kennedy, Umaga, William Regal, John Morrison and Harry “D.H.” Smith.

The documentary also noted that a wrestler has to fail the drug test twice in order to get suspended — at least for talents who have no prior drug failures on their record. If the wrestler tests positive the first time, the wrestler will be given a warning, and not given a suspension. If the drug levels in the wrestler’s system aren’t down the next time he/she gets tested, then the wrestler will get suspended. For instance, Harry “D.H.” Smith actually failed two recent Wellness tests, not one, to be served with his suspension. So in actuality, wrestlers have “four lives” before they can be terminated from the company for their illegal drug use.

Dr. David Black also revealed the amount of wrestlers that have been handed out warnings for testing positive in their drug tests. He noted that it was double the amount of suspensions handed out in the program’s history. So well, that number figures to be at least 60 more WWE drug failures since November 2005.
