Gomez was an unstoppable force in 2014, bagging the Ironman 70.3 World Championship title in Mont Tremblant just a week after being crowned ITU World Triathlon series champ for the fourth time. Challenge Dubai will be his first race in 2015.
“I like half distances races and I really look forward to racing against the best triathletes in this distance. I expect Challenge Dubai is going to be a very tough and fast race because of the highest pro field level,” Gomez said.
With a prize pot of $300k (£198k) and a route dotted with sand dunes and world-famous landmarks, Challenge Dubai has already attracted pro triathletes from around the world, including Germany’s Jan Frodeno and Michael Raelert, New Zealand’s Terenzo Bozzone, and Australia’s Luke McKenzie, Tim Reed, Brad Kahlefeldt and Pete Jacobs.
Not to be outdone, the women’s field includes Switzerland’s Daniela Rfy and Caroline Steffen, Britain’s Jodie Swallow and Leanda Cave, and USA’s Meredith Kessler.
Challenge Dubai is the first race in the Challenge Triple Crown series, which also includes the recently announced Challenge Oman. Challenge Bahrain, whose debut in December 2014 was a tremendous success, will be the final race in the 2015 series, with a $1m (£660k) prize purse up for grabs.
“I’m happy to see how triathlon is growing in the Middle East countries. I’m sure it is something very good for the people, especially for the kids, and it is definitely very positive for our sport,” said Gomez.
Registration for Challenge Dubai is ongoing until January 31. Visit www.challenge-dubai.com for more information.

WWE has issued a statement in response to the recent release of a 15-page affidavit containing the complete written testimony of the late Ashley Massaro, signed under penalty of perjury. The document was released by Konstantine Kryos, the lawyer who represented more than 60 former wrestlers, including Massaro, in a class action lawsuit against WWE.
As we broke down in a detailed report earlier this week, the affidavit contains a graphic retelling of an incident where the former Raw Divas Search winner was allegedly drugged and raped while on a U.S. military base in the Middle East, while reprsenting WWE overseas. Furthermore, her account of the story claims that Vince McMahon, among other high-ranking company officials, coerced her into covering up the entire incident.
WWE has released the following statement in response:
WWE is saddened by the death of Ashley Massaro, and we reiterate our condolences to her family. However, we regret that her attorney Konstantine Kyros, who filed multiple cases against WWE, lost all of them, and was sanctioned multiple times by the Court for repeated misconduct and false allegations, is using Ashley’s death to further his malicious campaign against WWE by releasing an affidavit that she submitted to the Court and later apologized to WWE for being involved with, so we wish to make certain things crystal clear.
At no time was Vince McMahon or the management of WWE ever informed by Ashley Massaro or anybody else that she had been sexually assaulted, drugged, raped or sodomized by a military doctor with a nurse standing guard while on a goodwill tour in 2007 to U.S. military bases in Kuwait. In fact, if she ever articulated such a claim to WWE, we would have reported it immediately to the Base Commander.

At no time was there ever a meeting with Vince McMahon, Kevin Dunn, John Laurinaitis or other company executives in which she told them of such a claim and was instructed to keep it quiet.
Former WWE stars who were friends with Ashley Massaro, including Lillian Garcia, Candice Michelle and Mick Foley, are promoting a fundraiser to promote educational support to the departed’s 18-year-old daughter, Alexa.
In case you missed it, this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw saw the “Beast Incarnate” Brock Lesnar string along the WWE Universe for three hours, refusing to decide which world championship he would cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase for, despite Paul Heyman promising that the duo would make their big reveal.
WWE has now posted a video featuring Stephanie McMahon claiming that now only her, but the entire McMahon family and their “Executive Team” will be taking action against Lesnar and Heyman for their…. actions?
We’re not exactly sure what the “Beast” did wrong, other than exercise his contractual right to cash in Money in the Bank whenever the hell he chooses. I guess she’s also upset that Lesnar turned his briefcase into a boombox. That’s where we’re at now.

Big E may not be currently cleared to compete, but luckily for all of us the New Day star is equally entertaining sitting at home, having hilarious interactions on Twitter. But is it possible for him to go too far?

After a recent exchange with porn star Tanya Tate, who labeled the WWE star as the “undisputed Twitter champ”, a fan stated that they were “scared for his career” due to his string of online ridiculously. The fan actually used the words “secure a position at AEW first”, referring to Big E trying to get himself fired from the company.
The five-time WWE tag team champion responded, invoking the classic episode of Seinfeld called “The Millennium”, where George Costanza intentionally tried to get fired by dragging the World Series trophy across a parking lot via a rope attached to his car. Big E then stated, “I couldn’t get fired if I tried.”
Like that episode of Seinfeld where George purposefully gets stains on Babe Ruth’s jersey and drags a World Series trophy through the parking lot, I couldn’t get fired if I tried.

We are sad to report the passing of one of lucha libre’s most memorable names, biggest draws, and greatest heels – the legendary Perro Aguayo,
Born in 1946 in the state of Zacatecas, Pedro Aguayo Damian grew to be one of Mexico’s most important stars across multiple decades. He was best known throughout the late 70s and 80s for his work in the Universal Wrestling Association, and in the 90s for the emerging AAA.
He was one of the last great rivals of the iconic El Santo, trying and failing on multiple occasions to take his mask like every top heel of that era. He did succeed in taking the masks of several notable lucha names including Stuka, the Texas Rangers Sergio River and Joe Rubio, El Globo Humano, Konnan and Mascara Ano 2000.
Aguayo was a 7-time WWF Light Heavyweight Champion, a one-time UWA World Heavyeight Champion, World Lightweight Champion, and World Light Heavyweight Champion, as well as a two-time UWA Jr. Heavyweight Champion, and tag team champion with Gran Hamada.
Later in his career working in AAA he became a two-time Mexican National Tag Team Champion with his son, Perro Aguayo Jr., and a one-time AAA Campeon de Campeones, IWC World Heavyweight Champion, Mexican National Heavyweight Champion, Mexican National Middleweight Champion, and was inducted into the AAA Hall of Fame in 2012.
His son, Perro Aguayo Jr. was also a top star in Mexico throughout the 2000s and into the 2010s, until his tragic in-ring death in March 2015, at just 35-years-old. Perro Aguayo Sr. passed away on July 3rd at the age of 73.
All week long WWE has been teasing that Roman Reigns would have a mysterious tag team partner hand-picked by Shane McMahon himself, and that the duo would face off against both Shane O’Mac and the “Scottish Psychopath” Drew McIntyre in the main event of Monday Night Raw.
McMahon pitched several possible options, some real and some very much fictional, and at one point No Way Jose actually campaigned to get himself in the match. At the end of the night, the obvious choice was… Gary “The Goat” Garbutt!
What do you mean you’ve never heard of Gary Garbutt?
Are you kidding me? He’s Gary the Goat! The great Garbutt from Newark!?
By day he’s an elderly janitor with a mysterious limp. By night, he’s a high-flying lucha legend on a mission to rid the mean streets of New Jersey of bullies and miscreants! Gary Garbutt, man!
Anyways… WWE booked a limping janitor as Roman Reigns tag team partner in the main event, but when good old Gary finally made the tag for his team, it turned out to be former Cruiserweight Champion Cedric Alexander in a disguise. And then they still lost anyways, like two minutes later. I don’t understand any more than you do, I promise.
