Official | Lille sign 16-year-old Turkish prospect Ferhat Cogalan

Lille have confirmed the signing of highly-rated Turkish midfielder Ferhat Cogalan.

The 16-year-old who previously played for Valenica’s youth academy – joins Christophe Galtier’s side on a three-year deal.

Cogalan was, just two years ago, linked with a move to Manchester United- at the tender age of 14-years-old- and has represented the Turkish national sides at U-14, 15 & 16 levels.

The signing of the French-born Cogalan is now Lille’s seventh summer recruit, making last year’s domestic strugglers one of the most active in this summer transfer window.

Club vice-president Marc Ingla emphasised that Cogalan – who was born outside Dunkirk – being a locally-born player would enable the fans to identify with their new signing: “We are delighted that Ferhat is joining us for the next three seasons. Firstly, because he has a lot of talent and huge potential, but also because he is from the North. It is important for us and the fans to be able to rely on talents from our region”.

Edinson Cavani wants to see Premier League teams play in Ligue 1

Speaking to BeIN Sports following PSG’s 3-2 loss to Liverpool last night, Uruguayan forward Edinson Cavani responded to criticism regarding the quality of Ligue 1 as an excuse for Les Parisiens’ loss.

“I think it is normal, Liverpool are one of the best teams in Europe currently. In a match like that, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. I would like to see Premier League teams playing in Ligue 1 to see how they would fare. That has nothing to do with the level of Ligue 1 and I do not want to say anything bad about the French league because France are world champions and a lot of players come from Ligue 1.”

“We are very disappointed with our start to the season. Especially because we are not winning matches, we are lacking in confidence. We had many chances, you saw our quality. I saw that the team spirit was good, we had the hunger to win this match. The players gave everything. Now is time to grit our teeth, work hard and lift our heads up again. I think we will turn this around. When you are in the relegation zone, of course everybody is disappointed. Luck has left us at the beginning of the season, but look at the chances we have had. I know that with hard-work, our luck will come back.”
