Rennes considering a move for Lyon’s Karl Toko Ekambi

Stade Rennais are pondering a move for Olympique Lyonnais’ Cameroonian striker Karl Toko Ekambi (30), L’Equipe are reporting. The Brittany outfit are in the market for attacking reinforcements following the long-term knee injury of free-scoring forward Martin Terrier (25) and Arnaud Kalimuendo’s (20) spell on the sidelines. The former PSG and Lens forward hurt his hamstring during last Sunday’s gutsy win against PSG. Rennes manager Bruno Genesio can now only rely on Amine Gouiri (22) to play centre-forward for the fifth-placed Ligue 1 outfit.

L’Équipe report that Rennes would favour a move for a versatile striker, able to play as a n°9 or a winger, with Karl Toko Ekambi fitting the bill. The 30-year-old Lyon forward is finding life increasingly difficult at the Groupama Stadium – he has only scored four goals and registered two assists in 19 Ligue 1 games. He was roundly booed last Saturday by his own fans when Lyon trailed against relegation battlers Strasbourg and let it all out by kicking a trashcan on his way to the dressing room. Karl Toko Ekambi’s contract with the Rhône outfit expires in June 2024.
