Florian Thauvin pens new Marseille deal until 2021

Florian Thauvin has signed a new contract extension with Marseille, tying the French international down until 2021, with a considerable wage hike.

After being one of the top performers in all of Ligue 1 last season, this is a huge move from OM, being one of their most important pieces of business in the whole transfer window so far.

Despite some slight interest in the player from Roma and Inter from Serie A, Thauvin didn’t want to sign anywhere else after making his loan move from Newcastle United permanent for around €11m after a certain amount of games.

Rudi Garcia will definitely be happy about this contract extension as he looks to rebuild Marseille into a force and after bringing in Luis Gustavo, Valere Germain and most recently Steve Mandanda, Thauvin’s extension will make the manager happy.

The 24-year-old was in top form last season, scoring 15 goals in 38 Ligue 1 games, and also making his debut for Les Bleus playing 10 minutes in a 5-0 thrashing of Paraguay in June.
