BROOKYLN, IA — Authorities have investigated over 200 leads as they search for Mollie Tibbetts, the 20-year-old University of Iowa student who went missing after going for a jog nearly two weeks ago. At a press conference Tuesday afternoon, investigators said they have not identified a reason for Tibbetts’ disappearance and have not ruled out any possibilities.
Kevin Winker, assistant director of the Iowa Department of Public Safety, said at the press conference that investigators are not giving up on any possible lead and hope that they can find her soon. Tibbetts was last seen July 18 after going for a run in Brooklyn, Iowa, where she was dog sitting at her boyfriend’s home. She was reported missing July 19 when she did not show up for work.

He also stressed that the investigation involves many aspects, including understanding what’s normal for Mollie and what’s not normal for her. He added that understanding who was in the area of Brooklyn the evening of July 18 was also important for the investigation.
Law enforcement officials from the local, state and federal levels are investigating the case.
Asked if he believes whether the public was at risk, Winker said authorities don’t know why Mollie is missing but he encouraged everyone to take some standard precautions. He added that people should be cognizant of their surroundings, regardless of the events involving Tibbetts. Asked if there were any persons of interests in relation to her disappearance, Winker said authorities are pursuing every lead available to them.
Authorities said anyone with information on Tibbetts’ whereabouts can use either of the two following tiplines: 800-452-1111 or 515-223-1400 or email [email protected].
