To understand Donald Trump’s new all-out war on the impeachment inquiry it is worth breaking down what he needs to achieve to hold on to the White House.
Step one – stop the Senate voting for his removal.
While the Democratic leadership is not formally backing his ouster yet, just an investigation, it is safe to assume they will propose articles of impeachment and call a vote – most likely before Christmas.
Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic House Speaker, would not have taken the party down this path unless she was confident the House of Representatives, with its Democrat majority, will back impeachment.
