MT. VERNON, Iowa — Heavyweight Donny Longendyke (SO, Vadnais Heights, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) and 133-pounder Chad Bartschenfeld (SR, Amery, Wis.) each claimed weight-class titles for Augsburg College, part of a second-place performance for the Auggies at the Cornell College (Iowa) Matman Invitational on Saturday.
Augsburg, ranked No. 6 in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III national poll, had two champions, three runners-up and 11 placewinners among its 17 wrestlers competing at the 14-team meet. Augsburg finished second with 128.0 team points, behind meet winner and No. 1-ranked Wartburg (Iowa) with 149.5 points.
Longendyke, ranked No. 7 in the Division III national rankings at heavyweight, scored four wins, including a first-period pin and two major-decision victories, en route to his weight-class win. A transfer from Division I Nebraska, Longendyke is now 26-2 on the season with 19 bonus-point victories (13 pins, one technical fall, five major decisions).
Bartschenfeld, ranked No. 9 nationally at 133, claimed four wins, including a 10-0 major decision win in the semifinals, in scoring his weight-class win. Bartschenfeld is now 18-7 on the year.
No. 10-ranked 149-pounder Will Keeter (SR, Twin Falls, Idaho) finished second in his weight class. He scored two technical falls along the way to the title match, which he lost 3-1 in sudden-victory overtime. Now 20-8 on the season, Keeter outscored his opponents by a 35-5 margin on the day.
No. 7-ranked 197-pounder Matt Hechsel (SR, Apple Valley, Minn.) claimed two pins en route to the title match, which he lost 4-3 in an overtime tiebreaker. Hechsel is now 18-6 on the season with eight pins, and is now 104-43 in his career with 29 pins.
Tone Fuenffinger (FY, Hibbing, Minn.) recorded his best tournament finish of his early career, finishing second at 157 pounds with a 4-1 performance. Fuenffinger is now 15-8 on the year.

Five Auggies placed fourth in their weight classes — 133-pounder Kirk Anderson (JR, Comstock, Minn./Barnesville HS), 141-pounder Marcus Hamer (SO, Kimball, Minn.), 157-pounder Grant Parker (SO, Onalaska, Wis.), 174-pounder Tyrell Martin (SR, Eagan, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) and 184-pounder Tommy Teigen (SR, Ham Lake, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian HS). Gable Frandsen (FY, Ellsworth, Wis.) placed fifth at 165.
