Jeff Cobb was recently interviewed on Ring of Honor’s YouTube channel. Cobb is one of the hottest stars working in the pro wrestling business today and he’s currently the No.1 Contender for the ROH World Heavyweight Championship.
The former Olympian entered the industry in 2008 and worked in his native Hawaii, as well as other independent promotions. But how was the transition from the amateur ranks to the pros?
“The first day I showed up, they had us do 500 squats. I mean that’s not easy, but if I was just an average Joe Blow on the streets, it would’ve been tough. I just came off my college career and I was in top physical shape so I was like 500 squats, bam. I started learning how to run the ropes. All the physical stuff was fine, it’s just the other aspect of pro wrestling was difficult, a harder transition, I guess.”
Cobb revealed that it was Hanson and Rowe, known as War Machine, now known as The Viking Raiders, that opened the door for him to work in ROH. Cobb talked about his unblemished record in the company, in a statement he directed to current Ring of Honor World champion Matt Taven.
“Matt Taven, come Best in the World–you know I haven’t been pinned, I haven’t been submitted in Ring of Honor. Best in the World? Circle that date on your calendar. Bring your A game, I’ll bring mine, cuz we’ll see who’s best in the world.”
Cobb’s title match with Taven takes place on June 28. Best in the World also features Flip Gordon versus RUSH, Silas Young versus Jonathan Gresham and Bandido versus ROH World TV champion, Shane Taylor.
