Mick Foley recently reflected on the 20 year anniversary of his infamous steel chair attack from The Rock. The attack took place during their “I Quit” match at the 1999 Royal Rumble.
Foley took 11 chairshots to the head that night. Each shot was more vicious than the one before it and to make matters worse, Mick’s hands were cuffed behind his back. The match is still remembered to this day as one of the most uncomfortable and most heinous contests to ever take place in a WWE ring.
The match was highlighted in the controversial Beyond the Mat documentary, which showed Foley’s wife and kids at ringside screaming and crying as he was attacked.

It was all part of the match of course and even though Rock had serious heat over the steel chair shots, the fact is he was acting completely in character. Foley and The Rock are close today and each man credits the other for helping to provide some of the most important, most entertaining moments of their careers.
IT WAS 20 YEARS AGO, TODAY!
