WWE Acquires World Wrestling Council Video Library

PWInsider is reporting that WWE has acquired the video library of the long-running World Wrestling Council. The premiere wrestling promotion in Puerto Rico, WWC was founded by legendary wrestler Carlos Colón Sr. in 1973 and the library acquired by WWE is said to go back to 1983 with the beginning of the Super Estrellas de la Lucha Libre, a program that still runs today.

WWC is best known as the last promotion for which Bruiser Brody ever worked. Brody was scheduled to wrestle Dan Spivey for WWC on July 17th, 1988, when he was stabbed in the shower of the arena in Bayamón by José González (aka Invader 1).

WWE acquired the tape library last month and has already shipped it to Stamford. The collection contains such wrestlers as The Road Warriors, Savio Vega, Dutch Mantel, & Colón’s son Carlito. There is no timetable for when WWC footage will be made available to wrestling fans at large.
