30-year-old attacking midfielder Mouaad Madri announced yesterday on Instagram that newly promoted to Ligue 1 side RC Lens had decided not to offer him a new contract, with his current deal expiring in June.
He played just three matches in the league for RCL over three years, suffering from a mountain of injury problems.
“I came here with a lot of desire and determination to achieve the aims of the club, which have been attained, but as you know the injuries did not allow me to participate. I want to thank the supporters who for the most part were behind me, as well as the board and all my teammates over the course of three magic years. Despite everything, I am taking away wonderful memories filled with emotion from my time here.”

Le Parisien are reporting that two French senators, Claude Kern and Michel Savin, have written a letter to French Minister for Sports, Roxana Maracineanu, to formally demand an explanation as to why she pushed through the termination of the 2019/20 Ligue 1 campaign, using a date of the 3rd August by UEFA which was a recommendation for when all action should end, rather than how she appears to have interpreted it, as a set rule.
It was this interpretation which led to the premature termination of the Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 seasons, owing to the fact that the French government decreed that no professional sport could return, even behind closed doors, until August – however UEFA President Ceferin has since confirmed what Lyon President Aulas has been stating, that he would have allowed for the French season to run up until September.
The letter from the senators reads as follows:
“In light of the information available and the evolution of the health situation, other recovery plans could have been imagined, believe the two elected officials. Also, we would have liked to know, Madam Minister, the reasons which pushed the government to make this choice to stop competitions altogether. Why did you make a decision so quickly and without any exchange in this sense having taken place with the players concerned? Why, as did other European countries having major football championships, have you not waited to find out about the health situation at the end of May?”
The French football farce continues to unravel.

L’Équipe and RMC report that BeIN Sports owes the LFP an additional €35m in international TV rights for Ligue 1, which was due and payable since the 30th April.
For the domestic rights, Canal + will pay €30.6m of the €43m that was due and payable on 30th April for matches already played, but nothing thereafter for the rest of the season. BeIN Sports will pay €9m of the €15m due and payable for the same April date, but also nothing for the rest of a campaign that was never completed.
However BeIN has not sorted a €35m bill sent by the LFP which was due and payable at that April benchmark for their international rights. Lyon President Aulas complained about this during the most recent LFP Finance Commission meeting which occurred at the beginning of this week.
The LFP remains confident that they will be able to rescue a portion of the money, €16m, which would be the fair share of the matches that were played of this section of the season, ending 30th April, with quarantine having begun halfway through March.

L’Équipe report that newly-promoted to Ligue 1 side RC Lens have begun talks to sign 28-year-old French winger Gaël Kakuta from Picardy outfit Amiens.

Initial discussions have begun between the two clubs, with ASC wanting €5.5m in order to sell. A sell-on percentage clause exists from the Picardy side’s previous deal with Rayo Vallecano, but the size of that is not currently known. Lens view this price as excessive, but talks will continue.
There has also been a concrete approach from Dubai-based outfit Shabab Al-Ahli, who have made it clear that they want to make a formal bid imminently. However, Kakuta has made it clear on his side that he wants to remain in France if possible. Despite this, this sentiment might be overriden by the fact that he wants his future to be sorted either way as quickly as possible, even if that is to a further afield destination.

France Football report that Premier League side Crystal Palace have fixed their asking price for 30-year-old French central defender Mamadou Sakho at €5m.
Ligue 1 side Lyon have in recent days advanced their conversations with the ex-PSG man over a possible salary agreement, but it is not yet clear whether or not the player is their number one priority at centre-back and thus whether they will actually attempt to close the deal.
The outlet claims that OL and Sakho are very close to an agreement over wages, and the contours have been drawn out over a possible 3-year contract. Sakho is willing to see his salary drop considerably to make the move and in return Lyon will give him a considerable signing bonus.
At the moment, the London club are waiting to be formally approached by Lyon – Palace have not received any offer for Sakho at the time of writing.
Palace are keen to offload the defender, and are willing to sell for €5m, for a player who is costing them €6m gross a year in wages.
Sakho has played just 8 matches this season for Palace, with his last appearance coming against Norwich on January 1st.
