“To play in the Champions’ League for Marseille, I experienced it as a board member, that changes a career, it changes a life. It is something fantastic to play the Champions’ League at Marseille… If Marseille are not in it, there will be some thinking time needed. But just because he has said that he wants to play in the Champions’ League does not mean that things will go as one wants.”

Marc Wilmots’ son on trial with Nîmes

22-year-old Belgian youth international and defensive midfielder Reno Wilmots, none other than the son of former Belgium national team boss Marc Wilmots, is on trial with Ligue 1 side Nîmes, according to La Provence.

Wilmots Jr recently had a failed spell at Serie B side Capri and although he is under contract with them until 2020, he has been authorised to undergo a trial with Nîmes.

Les Crocos coach Bernard Blaquart had the following to say: “It is an opportunity. This young player has qualities. We are going to see what he is made of with us this week.”

Benjamin André has agreed personal terms with Lille

Lille have moved to agree provisional contract terms with Rennes captain and 28-year-old midfielder Benjamin André, according to L’Équipe.

SRFC’s asking price is expected to be around €10m and the player had held a gentleman’s agreement with President Olivier Létang to allow him to leave the club this summer.

However, Létang appears to have changed his mind. Having already lost Romain Danzé (retirement) and Hatem Ben Arfa (free), Létang fears that all the experience inside his existing squad is dissipating rapidly.

It looks like things could get ugly between André & Rennes, with Lille his priority destination.

Lille are expecting an offer to be made by Lyon for Thiago Mendes in the coming days, with their asking price standing at €25m.

Rennes have initial bid for Reims goalkeeper Edouard Mendy rejected

The reliable Benjamin Quarez reported on Saturday that Rennes have had an initial bid for 27-year-old Reims goalkeeper Edouard Mendy rejected by their fellow Ligue 1 side, with SDR holding out for at least €8m in order to sell.

Norwich City, Aston Villa, Montpellier & SRFC have all registered an interest in the shot-stopper in recent weeks, but it is the latter side who have made concrete steps to sign Mendy.

Rennes have accelerated talks for Edouard Mendy after striking a provisional agreement to sell current #1 Tomáš Koubek to FC Porto. They are however delaying that deal until they find an adequate replacement for the Czech international, who Rennes President Létang personally wants to see the back of.

Reims goalkeeper Mendy has in fact already spoken with Létang about a possible move to the Brittany side. The journalist in question reports that a constructive conversation was had between the two men, even if it was quite brief.

One to watch in the coming days.

Lyon SD Juninho pessimistic about Nabil Fékir

Speaking at the unveiling press conference for left-back Youssouf Koné, who joins from Lille, Lyon Sporting Director Juninho discussed the future of French international attacking midfielder Nabil Fékir.

“I spoke with Nabil Fékir. I wanted to get to know him. The coach likes the player a lot personally. He is someone important to the club: he is a youth academy product, he has worn the armband, he is also a world champion… but, honestly, I think that it will be difficult to convince him to continue the adventure. We would like to keep him. For the moment, he is the only player who we can see departing. So long as he doesn’t leave, we will work with him as if he is staying. It is up to him to think about it, to take a decision with his family. But the possibility of him leaving is real.”

West Ham hot on Djibril Sidibé (AS Monaco)

L’Équipe report that Premier League side West Ham United are currently hot on AS Monaco full-back Djibril Sidibé.

Last summer, Atletico Madrid were interested in the French World Cup winner, for a deal worth around €25m, but with the signing of Kieran Trippier, that pursuit is well and truly over.

West Ham have enquired for the ex-Lille man recently, but he sits as option #2 on their shortlist, with Monaco’s asking price now just €15m excluding bonuses.

Rennes & Brest have made bids for Lamine Fomba

L’Équipe report that Ligue 1 duo Rennes and Brest have both made bids to French 2nd division side Auxerre for 21-year-old midfielder Lamine Fomba.

The offers were understood to have been worth between €2m and €3m for the youngster, under contract until 2022 with AJA, who have rejected both bids.

This does not mean that the story is over though, as Auxerre had told the player he could leave this summer.
