Fresh of his appearance in the Greatest Royal Rumble match in Saudi Arabia, Chris Jericho is expected to be making his return to New Japan Pro Wrestling, reports PWInsider.com.
The report notes that despite Jericho claiming publicly that he is finished with NJPW, it appears as if Y2J’s comments were simply meant to swerve fans, as he is currently set to return at the upcoming Wrestling Dontaku event. Jericho’s Dontaku appearance will be used to setup a match at NJPW’s Dominion event in Osaka next month.
Jericho last appeared for NJPW at the New Year’s Dash event, during which he attacked Tetsuya Naito. There was no follow-up to the attack, leading to speculation that Jericho was indeed finished with NJPW, and although it has not been confirmed that Jericho is returning to face Naito, that would be the most logical opponent for him at this point.
Most recently, Jericho made a brief appearance in the Greatest Royal Rumble match in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and picked up his feud with Kevin Owens. Jericho also appeared in a backstage video prior to the event during which he discussed appearing at the historic event, and compared it to WrestleMania.
Prior to the Greatest Royal Rumble, Jericho had the following to say to ESPN on his NJPW status:
“Things change. That’s how it goes. Sometimes things seem like a good idea at the time, and then when you look at it a little bit deeper and a little bit further, you realize it’s not gonna go the way you want it to go.”
