“What a fantastic father!”
That’s what Mike Levy wrote on Facebook after sharing a Christmas Eve flight with Hal Vaughan from Fort Myers to Detroit.
In his post, Levy wrote that Vaughan, whose daughter is a flight attendant for Delta Airines, was flying on each of her flights on Christmas Eve and on Christmas so he could spend the holiday with her.
Levy, 31, who lives in Toledo, Ohio, was flying back from a family vacation in Florida and was sitting next to Hal Vaughan. He said that as he began talking to Vaughan, he told him that he was just coming back from vacation.

That’s when Vaughan told him that he actually wasn’t going anywhere, Levy told Patch in a phone interview. Vaughan was just flying around with his daughter, Pierce Vaughan, so she wouldn’t have to spend Christmas Eve and Christmas by herself. In total, Vaughan was booked on six separate flights, according to Levy.
“I just thought he was such an amazing father,” Levy said.
And he wasn’t the only one. Another flight attendant came up to Vaughan to tell him what an amazing father she thought he was.
Vaughan and his daughter mostly got to talk to each other in between flights. On the plane to Detroit, Pierce checked in on her dad a few times. They exchanged little comments here and there but nothing in depth since Pierce was working and had other passengers to attend to, Levy said.
“Hal is a great guy, really friendly, very easy to talk to,” Levy said. Since the post he shared on Facebook has gone viral with thousands of shares, he said Pierce reached out to him through Facebook and he has been talking to both Hal and his wife, Kimberly.
Pierce Vaughan also shared Levy’s post on Facebook, writing a special thanks to “all of the patient, wonderful gate agents around the country and my perfect crew.” She said her dad made it on every flight and even got to fly first class on the flight from Fort Myers to Detroit.
She also gave a shout-out to Levy for “being a great first class passenger & helping us to understand how cool this actually is!”
“He went out of his way to spend an entire at least two days flying all over the country with his daughter,” Levy said.
Levy said he thought it was extremely unique and wanted to share that but he didn’t expect his post to get as many shares as it did.
Patch has reached out to Delta Airlines and Pierce Vaughan. We’ll update this story if we hear back.
