Earlier today Tokyo Sports broke the news that Japanese legend Meiko Satomura would be competing in the second annual Mae Young Classic tournament. The former World of Stardom Champion joins modern joshi phenom Io Shirai in this year’s bracket, so it’s very possible we could be seeing one final altercation between one of the greatest of all time, and arguably the greatest today, in a WWE ring for the very first time.
The official WWE press release already did a pretty accurate job summing up the 38-year-old star’s massive list of accomplishments, including founding the Sendi Girls joshi promotion and her numerous championship reigns.
Below we’ve featured two of Meiko’s matches that may intrigue newcomers to her work. The first is a bout against Io Shirai that was rated as the best match of 2015 by Stardom, and the second is a modern classic against current NXT Superstar Kairi Sane. And just for fun, featured above we’ve included a tag team match with Meiko and Minoru Suzuki taking on Kana (who later became Asuka) and Naomichi Marufuji.
