Hong Kong Leader To Announce Formal Withdrawal Of Extradition Bill After Months Of Protests

Hong Kong is witnessing its worst political crisis in decades. The protests began in June and the massive outrage was ignited by the controversial extradition bill under which individuals can be sent to mainland China for trial. The past three months has seen the protests snowball into an increasingly violent anti-government movement.

Following months of protest in the city, Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam will announce the formal withdrawal of an extradition bill that would have allowed extraditions of criminal suspects for further prosecution in China.

According to The New York Times, Lam is slated to meet with the members of her cabinet and pro-Beijing lawmakers as she faces pressure to withdraw the bill.
