Ivar (real name Todd Smith) is set to undergo surgery following the injury that he suffered on last week’s episode of Raw.
Bryan Alvarez reported on today’s episode of Wrestling Observer Live that Ivar will be undergoing neck surgery in Birmingham, Alabama this Tuesday. The injury happened when Ivar hit a suicide dive to the outside during an eight-man tag match on Raw last Monday.
The Viking Raiders teamed with Apollo Crews & Ricochet against The Hurt Business (MVP, Bobby Lashley, Shelton Benjamin & Cedric Alexander) in last week’s eight-man tag match. After the injury happened, Ivar started putting up the X sign with his hands. Alexander hit a Michinoku Driver on Ricochet in the ring and the referee counted the pin despite Ricochet kicking out. Medical personnel were shown checking on Ivar after the match.

In an update that was posted after last Monday’s Raw, WWE announced that Ivar suffered a cervical injury: “During the Eight-Man Tag Team Match on Monday Night Raw, Ivar suffered a cervical injury on a Viking Dive to the floor. As a precaution, Ivar was transported to a local hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.”
Ivar sent out a message on social media last Tuesday thanking everyone for the support he’s received: “From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU to every single friend, family and fan who has reached out to me. My heart is truly touched from all the love and support. Still figuring it all out but I am working hard to recover and be better than ever! Love you all.”
Dave Meltzer wrote in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter last week that Ivar has a previous history of neck issues before this.
