Jim Cornette Resigns After Comments Spark Outrage, NWA Issues Statement

The National Wrestling Alliance has issued the following statement:

Effective immediately: Jim Cornette has resigned from the National Wrestling Alliance. As an announcer on the November 19th edition of NWA Power, Jim made remarks during a singles match between Nick Aldis and Trevor Murdoch that were both offensive and do not meet the high standards of decency and good faith of the National Wrestling Alliance.

To ensure that such an error can never happen again, we’ve established new procedures of review for all NWA programming going forward.

We sincerely regret our failure in this regard.

As the statement reads, the incident occurred during a match between NWA World’s Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis and Trevor Murdoch on this Tuesday’s edition of NWA Powerrr. Cornette referred to Murdoch as “the only man I’ve ever known that can strap a bucket of fried chicken to his back and ride a motor scooter across Ethiopia.”

The episode in question was quickly removed from the NWA YouTube account and the audio was edited, before being re-uploaded later in the evening.

NWA Vice President Dave Lagana stated, “On tonight’s episode of NWA Powerr airing on November 19th 2019, one of our talents made comments which some viewers found offensive. We deeply regret the error and apologize. We have temporarily taken the program down while we correct this error.”

Aldis himself as chimed in as the heavyweight champion, calling Cornette’s comments “inappropriate” and “a lack of judgement or sensitivity”. He also criticized the incident for overshadowing the hard work of not only himself, but the many others involved in rebuilding the reputation of the NWA over the last few years.
