Douglas freshman Bella Kennedy and Edmonds freshman Seli Aholelei were named the NWAC Softball Players of the Week for contests played April 24-30. Additionally, Kennedy was selected the Softball Under Armour Player of the Week. Wenatchee freshman Makenzi Howard garnered honorable mention player of the week honors.
Kennedy, a native of Victoria, BC, turned in incredible numbers for the Royals last week in four wins. She hit .909 (10-for-11) with two doubles, a triple, four home runs, a walk and was hit by pitch three times. She tallied seven runs and registered 13 RBI.
Aholelei earned wins in all three of her starts last week, including a pair over seventh-ranked Bellevue to improve her record to 14-1 on the season. In 21 innings, she only allowed sported a 1.00 ERA, allowing just three earned runs and fanning 12. A native of Honolulu, Hawai’i, Aholelei is currently second in wins (14), fifth in strikeouts (86) and eighth in ERA (2.83). She is also an exceptional hitter and leads the league in home runs (19), is second in RBI (57) and third in batting average (.509).
Howard also had terrific numbers at the plate and on the bases. She batted .700 with 11 runs, six walks, a double, triple and one RBI. The speedy outfielder stole nine bases and set a new WVC single-season record for steals with 41, which leads the NWAC.
