MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State State wrestling team is ranked ninth out of 15 teams in the NCAA Super Region 3 Preseason rankings released on Thursday.
Maryville (Mo.) earned the top spot in the rankings with 45 points, followed by Ouachita Baptist (Ark.), McKendree (Ill.), St. Cloud State and Augustana rounding out the top-five spots.
A total of six Mustang individuals were ranked in the top 10 of their respective weight classes. Junior Beau Buysse is ninth at 141 lbs., redshirt freshman Trent Butcher is ninth at 149 lbs., junior Kyle Begin is sixth at 165 lbs., senior Jacob Begin is second at 174 lbs, junior Brody Goens is ninth at 184 lbs., while senior Cole Wilson is third at 285 lbs.
SMSU opens its season on Nov. 15 competing at the Dakota Wesleyan Open.
