Emma Watson Hides Maya Angelou Books Around the N.Y.C. Subway System

Emma Watson’s book fairy gig has gone international!

The Harry Potter alum spent Wednesday distributing copies of Maya Angelou’s autobiography, Mom & Me & Mom ($13; amazon.com) around the New York City subway system as part of a collaboration between her global feminist book club, Our Shared Shelf, and the Books on the Underground project.

The effort first began last week when the civic-minded Brit took to the London Underground to hide copies of the book in the nooks and crannies of the city’s bustling transit system:

Then, following the results of the U.S. presidential election, Watson, 26, tweeted that she planned to export some of her magic book-fairy dust to the States. “Today I am going to deliver Maya Angelou books to the New York subway,” she wrote. “Then I am going to fight even harder for all the things I believe in.”

She traveled to 23rd Street station and also left books at Grand Central Terminal.

Watson is no stranger to taking up humanitarian causes. The Beauty and the Beast star was appointed a goodwill ambassador for U.N. Women in 2014, serving as an advocate for HeForShe, a campaign that encourages both genders to support equal rights.
