As noted, WWE Champion AJ Styles appeared to have suffered an injury at the WWE MSG live event this past Friday night, and Styles subsequently missed Saturday and Sunday’s live events.
Prior to Sunday’s live event in Odessa, TX, WWE announced Styles would not be appearing at the show due an injury sustained at the WWE MSG Live event. Dave Meltzer noted on the most recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE running the injury angle prior to Styles’ scheduled tag team match at WWE MSG likely indicates Styles actually suffered the injury before the live event, however that remains to be confirmed.
PWInsider.com is now reporting AJ Styles is backstage at WWE Raw tonight in Dallas, and is scheduled to be examined by the WWE medical staff to further evaluate his injury status. Styles traveling to Dallas means he will not be at tonight’s WWE Smackdown Live event in Cedar Park, TX. It’s worth noting local advertisements for the event are no longer listing Styles and are now advertising Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura vs Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. Orton replaced Styles at the live events this past Saturday and Sunday.
As of this writing, Styles remains scheduled to defend the WWE Title against Shinsuke Nakamura at WrestleMania 34.
