New WWE Backlash Promo Pushing RAW & Smackdown Rosters (Video), Possible Update on Asuka’s Future

WWE has released a new promo for their upcoming Backlash pay-per-view streaming live on the WWE Network on May 6th, which you can check out above. As noted, the company has done away with brand-specific special events which means we’ll be seeing all the stars from both RAW and Smackdown Live at every single one of their monthly pay-per-views.

In the promo, it’s pushed heavily that the top stars of both shows would be appearing together, and interestingly enough Asuka is depicted as a member of the Monday Night RAW roster in the graphics.

The formerly undefeated “Empress” suffered her very first loss at the hands of Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 34, and her future has been a matter of some pretty heavy and serious speculation. It was originally thought that since Asuka won the 2018 Royal Rumble and opted to challenge the reigning Smackdown champion, she would become a member of the blue brand. There really isn’t a precedent because despite 30+ years of men’s Royal Rumble matches we never actually had a winner envoke their right to switch brands should they choose to challenge for a title otherwise not available to them.

Of course there’s always a chance that this entire discussion becomes void in a matter of weeks, as it’s expected that WWE will be announcing another Superstar Shake-Up coming right before (or shortly after) WWE Backlash, which will not only switch the places of several RAW and Smackdown stars, but likely call up several names from the NXT brand as well.
